They have been doing that in order to prevent delays. Trump wants as many delays as possible, but the judges (so far) aren't taking the bait. It's frustrating, but ultimately it's the smartest move.

I spent 32 years of my life in the United States until I moved to Europe more than 30 years ago. I have watched tragedy unfold non stop in the country I once called home. I will never forget 11th of September and the horror that followed from that attack. The world changed forever after that. There were mass shootings on a weekly basis and nothing was done to stop them. Then Trump came along and with him a pandemic as well. More people died from COVID under Trump's watch than on September 11th. Instead of leading the country, he spewed cockamamie advice from the podium and people took it. I breathed a sigh of relief when he lost the election in 2020 but that sigh of relief turned into a gasp of incredible disbelief. He tried to overthrow our government on January 6th. To this day this monster is doing his best to undermine and destroy our democracy, and while some of his loyal followers are in prison, he is not. He is out playing golf, babbling, sporting his diapers and taunting the American judicial system (he has SCOTUS in his pocket) which until now has not been able to punish this creep for anything. Pathetic. BTW I no longer tell people I am from the United States. I tell them I was born in Canada and leave it at that.

Yeah he would. He'd use the opportunity to shout out, cause as much disruption as he could and try to force the judge to have him restrained. He'd use that to prove how 'unfairly' he was being treated and call on his supporters to do something to rescue him. I'm sure that calculation has already figured into the judge's decision.
