A Kildare mother who is the single parent of a 19-year-old who spends a lot of time in ICU says her carer’s allowance is not enough.
Aisling McNiffe is a full-time carer for her son Jack, who is receiving frequent and prolonged hospital care from Children’s Health Ireland (CHI) at Crumlin.
Jack is a wheelchair user with Down syndrome and a rare auto-immune disease.
He has a severe intellectual disability, he is fed via a jejunostomy tube and has chronic lung disease, mild scoliosis and hip dysplasia. He also has asthma and mild obstructive sleep apnoea.
