‘My son spends a lot of time in ICU’ - single mum in plea for more support in Budget

A Kildare mother who is the single parent of a 19-year-old who spends a lot of time in ICU says her carer’s allowance is not enough.
Aisling McNiffe is a full-time carer for her son Jack, who is receiving frequent and prolonged hospital care from Children’s Health Ireland (CHI) at Crumlin.
Jack is a wheelchair user with Down syndrome and a rare auto-immune disease.
He has a severe intellectual disability, he is fed via a jejunostomy tube and has chronic lung disease, mild scoliosis and hip dysplasia. He also has asthma and mild obstructive sleep apnoea.

Carer's are saving the state , millions - disgraceful . I've been there done it , for my mother when she was dying , didn't want to go into any hospital / hospice , i did it gave up work my family life for a whole year . No one penny did i get ,as i didn't have a clue what my entitlements were 10 yrs ago , i just got on it with as i have a great husband .... worked day & night ,kept roof over our heads , now i do now know how anyone who keeps roof over head on one wage , its impossible . This government is a disgrace , to its own native citizens . No words anymore 😢 .

@@user-zq4fv8sj6v gosh no , i have the upmost repect for men too , i think you read me wrong , my own husband is my rock , & helped me through caring & providing for us as a family . I hope this clears my comment up , men do alot too . Im grateful to have such a great kind & helpful husband in my life , i was just saying what does it matter whether this lady on her own or not , the factvof the matter is she needs more help , financially , nobody knows anyones situation , in Fairness shes a career fulltime .

Id have hige admiration for men too , who do the same please i do not hate anyone , this is about Careers who need more help financially in the home .... who have given up their work , lives to care fulltime , saving the state alot of money , freeing up fulltime care in other departments . Good grief . Its a sad old world we live in today , everyone tired exhausted & trying to explain pull out every word they say now a days .
