@@sebastiansauve3752 I think they can also play awesome actual enemies that hate each other. Chemistry goes both ways. … it would make me sad, but I think they could totally do it. So now the question is this if they were going to remake face/off with these two, who would be the criminal and who would be the policeman? 🧐
@@mathewaquino6304 I agree, but I would hate that, that’s why I stayed away from it. But with that said, Nicholas has the true depth to play the villain, plus he is English, and they always play bad people really good.
For someone who has loved this book for over two years now, I am glad that the director put thought into choosing the casts. The efforts that went through the casting is amazing to hear, seeing as these characters hold a very special place in a lot of people's hearts. The thing with the story though, is that it doesn't feel finish. Even in the books. So I hope one day we get a sequel to Alex and Henry's story.
Yes, it’s crying out for a second book!! And I’d LOVE to see, instead of a sequel movie, a series!!! I know they probably won’t do that but a girl can dream 💛
I am so glad and relieved that Taylor and Nick did not have to do any thing sexual to either earn an audition, or to overdo such activity when auditioning. For them to have gotten along so well immediately and being one another's polar opposite made their on-screen chemistry totally believable and realistic. In the entertainment industry, many people have sadly compromised their personal values to either earn and do an audition or more, or to earn a role. One should never have to forsake their values and their good sense of right and wrong for any thing. In this particular film with their casting, to me it appears that everything was done 'safely.' And the result? A film that touches people's hearts on a level that not too many can ever truly comprehend. I know what it is like to truly, deeply love someone so much that you feel like you can't breathe without them. Except, in my case, I am not loved in return and they refuse to talk to me, never mind the fact I was bombarded by their ongoing mixed signals and hot and cold attitude towards me repeatedly. At least with Alex and Henry, the hope for lasting love was victorious. P.S. "Make America 'British' Again!"
... uhhh, ya. And what with Prime movies being known for their casting couch practices (plus they can get the actual couches at a deep Amazon discount to boot), I guess Taylor & Nick really dodged a bullet there, huh?
I watched this as a straight man because I saw Nick in Purple Heart and I liked his acting. I have never been homophobic but the speech Taylor said about him falling in love with a man and that man happens to be a prince etc.. made me realize (even at my age) that sometimes love just can happen between 2 people. Whoever they are. If anything it opened my eyes a little Both actors played their roles well.
Thank the gods that the director took such pains. The casting is impeccable. I don’t buy into the idea that acting professionals have to be the same sexuality as the characters they play. In many ways, that’s a cage. It’s much more heartening to celebrate our common humanity and the fact that anyone can play any sexuality to me is a testament to the universality of love and sexual attraction.
I strongly agree that Actors are hired to give life and believability to their characters. That is their craft. Their personal lives are that, personal. If they want to show themselves publicly being in relationships with either same or opposite sex partners, that is their choice. People relating to such relation should then take notice and smile.
Every actors in the RWRB movie are perfectly suited for their roles. Especially Alex and Henry, can’t think of anyone who is better than Nick and Taylor.
Best character and best performance in the film is Zahra Bankston (Sarah Shahi)...completely believable, owned EVERY word that comes out of the character's mouth, and yeah, stole every scene she is in.
Kudos to Lopez because the portrayals by BOTH leads are perfection! However, Nicholas Galitzine is so breathtakingly gorgeous that it's a bit distracting! [ a distraction which I loved by the way! 🙂]
This explains why the cast was so stellar. The amount of effort spend on each individual really showed. Usually I always find a few people in each film who I feel are miscast or were tagged on, because they happened to be there…but I couldn’t find a single candidate in RWRB. I really feel it elevated the film!
The fact that the director is willing to drop the show if he wouldn't find the best suited actors for 2 of the most important characters in the film. You already know this is gonna be good. And I thought making a film should always have this struggle. Because every cristism goes back to the director and Matthew-knowing the genius he is refuses to join the list of directors who failed to do their job well. So he's like we better find the best Alex and Henry or the show isn't happening 😂 One thing I've learned from this fact- Trust a genius' process. Listen to them and let them work no matter how long it takes. God, I guess this is why it's impossible for me to move on from this film. Congratulations to the entire cast. Everyone did such a great job from the actors to them working behind the camera. Taylor Zakhar Perez and Nicholas Galitzine just become icons because the director was so passionate. Everything is chef's kiss!!! 🍒👌
This cast was amazing. I adore everyone and happy to see this interview from the director. I think Stephen Fry as the king is a FANTASTIC and very ironic choice but nonetheless an iconic one.
So much respect for Matthew for taking the casting so seriously, to the point of refusing to make the movie unless he found the right actors. Chemistry is EVERYTHING in a romcom. Without chemistry, the movie just sucks.
To be fair, without that amazing chemistry the movie would be meeh at best. But lucky for us, they really took their time to cast the leads and found these amazing guys 🎉🎉🎉🎉
The director's explanation for casting straight people for the roles is really good imo. I'm bisexual btw, and I'd definitely prefer to see my sexuality portrayed well and my feelings towards the same sex acted well by straight people instead of having queer people on set who couldn't portray it as well as Nick and Taylor did or doesn't do justice to the book they were adapting
Either an actor is good and believable or he isn´t. That has nothing to do with his own sexuality. Generations of gay actors have been portraying straight characters for age. Also no actor has to have killed several people to play a serial killer. See what I´m getting at?
Honestly, Nick has a long list of roles he has played, equally divided between m/m and m/f, and the queer ones have been his best roles. I find that fascinating and a bit revealing of how important playing characters outside yourself is. I genuine believe that even if he is straight, acting allows him to explore sexuality in a safe way, and that’s why I support casting based on performance, not status. Allowing anyone to explore sexuality without being forced to come out is a good thing.
@@NoFirstNoLastName I think non-actors put way to much weight on an actor´s own sexuality. He plays a role. In this role he falls in love. That person happens to be a man. To use henry´s words; " I´m as gay as a maypole", but I would not and have never had a problem portreying a straight guy falling in love with a woman. Charisma, chemistry and fondness isn´t something one can fake. Acting is a craft one can learn. As there are good and bad plumbers, there are also good and bad actors. What I´m trying to say is that Nicholas´s own sexuality is near to meaningless. it´s just our curiosity wich makes us speculate. ;-)
@@peteraschaffenburg1ugh can we stop doing “serial killer” analogy. I’ve read this couple of times and it’s extremely cringe. I’ve noticed people only bring this analogy whenever there is a queer role. Like really🤦🏽🤦🏽😌
I love how Matthew took such care in casting these characters. It was a long and tedious process but as we saw, it was well worth it bc the movie is phenomenal ❤ Also, I agree that it wasn’t a “must” that the actors be queer. It’s acting, after all. Although it should still be pushed that more queer actors be casted. Taylor and Nick performed so well though, I still can’t get over it ❤
Honestly other than both of the main characters, everyone else had incredible chemistry with each other. It felt like they really did know each other a lot, and had been that way for a long time.
The cast was just wonderful! I know that Alex in the book, was shorter, but Taylor was just perfect as Alex. The chemistry between the two actors was so honest in their portrayals. I Love the book and though there were differences between the book and the film, they were so perfect together.
Must admit the director had shown his psychic ability in put the person for portraying the characters on his mind... And the result is persons that we see with their roles... Especially Uma Thurman, I got shock to see her as the madam president in the trailer and not believing my own eyes.. She's just perfect for every role she's given to
A Nick lo eligió rápidamente ,lo escogió después de ver una docena de actores y lo llamó personalmente ,Nick no audicionó para el papel de Henry más bien solo demostró su versatilidad como actor y eso le encantó al director Nick es un actor dramático
Its a movie which can be watched Millions of times just because of the cuteness of henry Love of Alex innocence of henry Determined alex means their chemistry made this movie Just Commendable which i can't just express in words
The casting is everything when it's a film whose story is so intimate. It's a testament to Mr. Perez's intelligence as a director that he waited and tried over and over until he found the best actors for these roles. They were worth it. Chemistry is off the charts!
I’ve watched this video before it was so informative on how each individual was chosen. What a knack Mathew has in his selection process. Truly a job well done. Harry and Alex were so so believable you could feel the connection between them. At times maybe it was more than acting but that’s between then. A true Oscar winning performances. Looking forward to the sequel -------1-2-34----😊
Nick looks Like a adult version of Kevin in Home Alone. HE’s Just perfect! They could do a HOME ALONE in a adult version Like Kevin got adult and getting engadgment with a girl for example 😅
The Casting carried the whole movie since there's not much (original) story to be honest. The book was completely character driven so they had to find the perfect match, and I'm happy they found the perfect actors to play Alex and Henry.
I need the uncut version, behind the scenes, bloopers, interviews, photoshoots, audio book with their voices, Second and third movie and world tour pls 😭😭❤🤍💙
We need to understand here one thing it's a movie the main characters need to prove their ability and director needs to show cased his work and they have contracts so credit goes for all screen play was nice too ..❤ waiting for the movie to showcase on indian prime videos
With the ACTUAL death of Queen Elizabeth, it worked out beautifully to place the story in a parallel universe, but not ours!! Very smart writing. Mr. Lopez is on track to surpass Ryan Murphy!! If you've seen/read any of his plays, then you know what I'm saying! 😉
I'll be honest, the movie's pretty cliche, but their chemistry really carried the movie. There are some cringy, corny moments, but for me, it was so cute because it's them. Instead of cringing in the corner of how corny it was, I was like all giddy because it's Alex and Henry being corny and hella in love🥹. I'm thankful for this casting, and I really want to see more of them as Alex and Henry and Taylor and Nicholas.
2:25 Correction to this video’s analysis: Alex was *not* “an immigrant”; he was born in america and is a full American. He also has a second cultural background - his dad’s Hispanic family roots. To call him an immigrant is saying that people with non European family roots (even if they’re born in America) are not as American as those of European roots. It’s promotes white supremicist biases.
The entire cast and crew of this film should be extremely proud of themselves. This film hardly got any promotions, yet it enjoyed an astronomical success. It's rare to see success like this these days, since most of them inflate the numbers, use bots and PR.
I am soo glad with the casting choice ♥️🤍💙 we sure are blessed by them also I dont think that appearence or sexuality should be a limitation factor when it comes to casting actors, the most important thing is that the actor is able to impersonate the character, show their essence, and Nick and Taylor did that perfectly
this movie was everything I was expecting for and more it blew my mind 😍🫠, they did the book justice and yes I know they made some changes here and there but you know how hard is to make book adaptation, they actually did wonders with Henry and Alex (the actors are beyond perfection) like I can’t get enough, my only complain is I wish this would have been like a mini series to get more of them 😢 so maybe in the future we get a sequel after the massive success of the movie ❤
