My daughter is 20 years old, autistic, and non-verbal. Seeing Gus getting so emotional about his dad had me in tears. Having a child with special needs is a struggle, but they are indeed a blessing. I love this family!
I am a 61-year old man... and I can't watch him without tears streaming... I have a disabled son also and I KNOW the struggles, insults, and pain personally... so does he! I also know the blessing that he is! and it was great to see that genuine joy from Tim's son, Gus!

This is exactly what America needs! i dont care that the cost of living has gone up, that's just how the economy works. I cried listening to Coach Walz's speech which was the most emotional and beautiful one out of them all. This love is all we need as Americans. The whole convention was amazing, uplifting and exciting, it was more like a carnival. The Trumpers could only dream of such a spectacle, them and their boring policies. ughhh gimme a break!

My mom is a recent immigrant who knows nothing about U.S. politics. Me, I know a lot about U.S. politics. I was watching with Mom last night and Gus’s reaction brought both of us to tears. The sheer humanity of it all was overwhelming. That moment was not political. It was human and divine.
Gus stole my heart. His pure emotion was a beautiful thing to witness. My 33yo son is autistic and Walz sharing his son’s struggles with the world puts our kids in the spotlight. It’s not an easy road so having support makes us all feel seen.
He's not autistic .. He literally plays travel and hs volleyball, has a driver's license.. He has anxiety... And with his dad being his dad... Wouldn't you?

I agree! Unbridled emotion for a father...Tim Walz will probably remember his son's reaction forever--and tear up everytime he thinks of it. Likewise for his daughter's more subdued heart shaped hand expression. Both different. Both beautiful. Both validating beyond belief for a a devoted, loving father!
Boy did this make me shed tears just watching the love Gus has for his dad and to know he has a special need with ADHD but was able to have such an amazing response of emotion is so wonderful to see and it makes me love Tim even more. I accept him now as Americas Dad and Coach on this winning team for Democracy...I love you Tim!!!
I'm a grandmother to an autistic child who is now 18 & starting college that has a special 2-year program for special needs children. I can't tell you how amazing these kids can be, they of course have diversity in their abilities. But, if the parents are as deeply involved as my daughter & son-in-law the road to accomplishing their true abilities is a great accomplishment for them. Sadly, not all parents step up for kids with special needs.

If you think you couldn't love Tim Walz more than you already do, learning about his incredible love for and support of Gus will prove you wrong. Can you imagine how Trump would treat a child who had any physical or mental challenges, and whose challenges would benefit from a father's love and acceptance? Trump would be inclined to make it about himself. "I'm a victim of God's will to give me an imperfect child." You know that Tim Walz never thought that about his son for a second. The more I learn about Governor Walz, the more deeply I admire him. Our country will a much kinder place due to his character and example leading the way. ❤

You can tell that Gus has been nurtured and loved. I didn't know he had a disability until I saw other sites that mentioned people saying unkind things about his reactions without knowing his history. I'm glad I found this site, because that young man's reaction to his father's success is universal to any child who loves their parent and are excited seeing so many other people celebrating them. I love this.

It explains one other reason behind his strong dedication and emotion toward making and having a world where everybody belongs. Being deaf in one ear, I was teased for hearing things incorrectly or not hearing things while growing up---and then (later, after the shame had worn off) for trying to prepare people to do things to help me hear them by telling them I was hearing impaired. They'd mouth words silently or say "What?" right after I told them. We need compassion and advocates! No person should EVER be ignored, shamed or rejected outright for being different from the expected (i.e. "norm"). We ALL are wonderfully unique and have value!!!

My 7 year old second grader son is highly functioning autistic. He is very verbal but sometimes misunderstands things in social settings. He would have done exactly what Gus Walz did. My little guy cries easily too. Just yesterday, the second day of school at a new school when I picked him up from school he told me he’d started crying at recess. What happened was the group of children he wanted to play with refused to let him join in when he asked to play too. It must have been pretty bad because he said his teacher had sent him to see the nurse. He had been pretty good this summer, no rocking back and forth behavior for the whole entire summer…but on the way home after he related the story, the rocking behavior came right back. It was only the second day of school and his behavior was severely affected. He rocks when he feels loss of self esteem, loss of confidence, self doubt and general confusion about things. It broke my heart! He’s doing the best he can to cope with situations that he just doesn’t understand. It’s heart wrenching when every two steps forward seems to be accompanied by one step backward. Patience and love are key. Thank you Gus for being the real you!

Some have held high positions in NASA and other tech companies. It’s often social skills and understanding of social interactions that is their bigger problem.

Among the SUPERPOWERS of Gus Walz is his ability without speaking a word, to show that the party on the other side of the aisle is the party of meanspiritedness. There is no other explanation to the inappropriate reaction to Gus' emotional response to his father on stage. Seeing his face live at the time, it plucked at my own heartstrings in a strong and positive way. My visceral reaction was only emotionally good. Coming from the side of the constantly angry and mean, I am sadly not surprised at how a few smallminded individuals have followed in the mold of their diabolical leader. Shame, shame. People on the spectrum are among the most precious we've got on the planet - the Walz family are fortunate to have Gus.
