@@Omegaman18 the real disrespect is making us listen to Mallory Rubin when they finally do Silence of the lambs. What a shame I can't even listen to the pod cause I dislike her so much.
Really enjoy the single wide shot of everyone with shakycam combined with the weird noise cancelling microphones that omit 90% of the audience sound. A+ production guys.
The audio on this episode is so bad, it’s unsettling like the film they’re discussing. Why is the ambient sound constantly being cut off? It has an effect like the recording is pausing and restarting after every host interacting
I think there's a lotta different things going on with this whole dynamic. First of all, personally with Bill (and I think several other people, especially gen x'ers) there's a bit of a Michael Mann-chip on his shoulder, particularly since MANHUNTER wasn't nearly as much of a commercial hit. And the fact that RED DRAGON was directed by Brett Ratner, who even before the sexual harrassment stuff hit, he wasn't a respected filmmaker very much. Whether unfairly or not, it has a "Hollywood glitzy" veneer to it, even tho he assembled an epic cast, on the level of an Oliver Stone film. And I'm pretty sure Anthony Hopkins has even said that part of the reason he agreed to do it is because he had some regret over how cartoonish and over the top he went with the character in HANNIBAL, that he wanted to do something more akin in tone to SOTL. Honestly I had admiration and appreciation for both versions.
tough smart brave woman and a redeemable and familiar feeling yet vulgar violent male villain, that was new then as much as they're familiar now, and the level of dueling dialogue those two types can have was new, and a sign of times to come
I don’t know how no one gets the main knit pick of both this and Manhunter; that it was a simple case if the cops did their original investigation better. In this, it was a neighbour. In Manhunter, it was the home movies. Neither needed a psychological genius to figure out
What is going on with the sound. Whenever it goes from the mic to the crowd noise there’s a weird pause. Great episode but I have to think they could do better with the sound.
Mallory needs to watch this again, the fifth victim was the first time he put the moth pupa in their throat and Catherine didn’t actually hurt Precious’ leg, she just said that to incite Buffalo Bill to let her out.
I've never gotten the aversion to classifying this as a horror movie. There are two serial killers in it; one of which is actively assembling a skin suit and another (a cannibal BTW) who wears someone's peeled off face over his own at one point 😅😭😭 It doesn't matter if it's well-written, directed and acted. It's a horror movie 😂
Thought on the @ChrisRyan77 “Multiple”Miggs question. Maybe both definitions are accurate if each Miggs’ personality is capable of distinct and separate finishes? Shit, did I just give away the premise for a Shudder Dirk Diggler horror series? 👀
I can't believe none of these dudes have ever figured out, that he's Jame Gumb, because he's a woman trapped in a man's body, not James, wishing to be Jane, he names himself Jame.
@@Anonymous-k2h Live podcasts stink. Everyone tries too hard to get an audience reaction, plus the audience tries too hard to be involved by yelling dumb things out
On the topic of Migs…just gonna throw this out there (no pun intended). I really think he had that on reserve. Like a bucket. He’s a psycho. He probably had that ready for anyone who walks by. Just saying.
Totally agree. That goes for every podcast. The humor absolutely is forced. There must too much of an urge to play to the crowd and make unfunny remarks. The audience is so excited to be there that they laugh at anything and everything.
@@ATWOOD726 cannot stand amanda. never has anything to say - just waffles. I understand people not liking mallory's personality (or voice on podcasts) but I appreciate that she comes with opinions and is ready to defend them
@@borisyeltsin6293 Agreed. I can see why people don't like Mallory. But I think she's good; and they've been a lot better about bringing her in as a pinch hitter. Amanda sometimes has interesting things to say about movies; but she's only invested in 5% of all big picture conversations.
Mallory sucks live. Well she sucks on the pod but it’s even worse live. I’d rather listen to Ebert’s corpse instead of Fennessey. Bill is great, as usual even though he’s from Boston. CR is CR. Sometimes he says something that just clicks a lightbulb on for me in a film. Other times, he changes that lightbulb out for a dimwitted goofy glimmer.
Fennesey, or however it’s spelled, can be a tool. Which suck because we have the same first name. But unfortunately for him he spells it the dumb way and has dumb “hot takes”
Honestly if you watch this conversation, it's not at all good... Bill Simmons spends a good amount of time kicking up ideas, all 3 knock down the entire show... the first time Rewatchables did Silence of the Lambs, was much better.
