It seems they would've located the body long ago. I mean, it isn't like he was out there by himself and went missing, they knew he drown and the general area where he drowned. If they are his fathers remains, then they did a horrible job locating this guy.
You’ve got to understand for underwater dives and for recoveries on mountains, one of your greatest issues is going to be the altitude. For divers doing recovery you have heavy tanks on your body along with your weight and have limited time and mobility and every moment underwater is putting yourself in danger. You can do general sweeps of an area but the water will keep moving and if the body hasn’t settled or been caught up on something it’s gonna move. There’s also depth at a certain point it’s to dangerous to try and recover for fear it puts the responders in life threatening conditions. It’s why Suva divers and mountain climbers know the pathways and caves by the bodies sometimes left behind, jammed in a crevice or too far away from a safe path to try and get them without dying next to them.
People still in their cars in canals next to major roadways have gone missing for decades. A lone body in a massive lake in 1958, forget about it, it's divers in the dark with flashlights at best.

I think most people are aware of the mob that most likely sunk many bodies in the lake. Its a deep lake, the bodies found already are just the beginning, the lower the water gets the more barrels full of concrete with bodies inside will be found along with people that drowned over the years and were never found.
They have to extract it from the bones. It isn't exactly a cheek swab. If the DNA is degraded they would have to find some. Once they have it they would still have to research DNA links to identity the person. I have been doing my own genealogy since 2005, and there are still people who remain unidentified on my own tree. Even after a DNA test a few years ago. Also, there are budget issues to worry about. A 40 year old skeleton from LakeMead with no foul play suspected may not be a priority over cases with still living victims, or where foul play is suspected.

Fresh ones sink, then they start to rot and the gasses can cause them to float to the surface which is why you want to weight them down, then after a bit they sink again.
Not so bad Lake Mead is drying up after all. I just hope those that live there and enjoyed the Lake all these years gets together and start cleaning up all that mess regardless. I am sure there are thousands of people that is complaining about the Lake drying up and had enjoyed the Lake that dropped alit of things out of their many times going there to enjoy the waters and the view it's all good. But now it's time to clean that mess up, your parents, grandparents and your conscience specially if you are a man or woman of God do the right thing and go clean up the Lake. I don't want to hear it's not my fault or it is the government or the city officials job, NO it us the job of each and everyone their past and present time family that have ever use Lake Mead of their vacation spot, ever fished and still fishing in the area. It os easy to point fingers and talk with your mouths full about the Lake and how many beautiful memories you had at the Lake and how sad that it is drying up. Well do the right thing if you really believe in God and that one day it will be full again. START CLEANING UP THE LAKE.
