I'm convinced that we are all stupid. What do we want cheap houses or not? On one side we are complaining that houses are way too expensive, and people are priced out of the market and now they are complaining that cutting negative gearing will cause house prices to crash. I'm confused. In the end house prices are way, way, way, way, way, overpriced anyway. Unfortunately, the only way to reduce prices and fix housing crisis in a situation like Australia is a price crash. You can't have no crash and cheap prices in a overheated market. We want our cake and to eat it too. We let this housing crisis get way out of control. There is no easy way to do this. People who will suffer the most are those who did buy houses at the way, way, way, way, way overpriced market and who took out stupidly high loans they can't afford. There are many ways to do this and minimise the hurt. Keep negative gearing incentives but cap it to a single or two investment properties. Reduce the tax incentives on existing homes and increase on new homes. This way it will incentivise building new homes and people who did buy a single property at high price will not get burnt. Those who have more than two investment properties well, sorry, you got greedy. At the moment no one is interested in building new homes because existing homes are far cheaper, safer and more lucrative investments. The government continues to pump the population without any planning for building new homes so the housing crisis keeps getting worse. Whatever happens something drastic needs to bed done. We can't keep it the same way and expect people to be able to afford a house. Housing should never be a vehicle for gaining wealth. It should be businesses only. That's what provides jobs and jkeeps the economy going. The housing market is slowly rotting the Australia’s economy and it's about time someone has the balls to do something about it.
