The unbridled rawness of it is precisely what drove women crazy screaming when they saw the Beatles. The ladies absolutely lost it over this song. That raw energy struck a chord with women for certain 😊
I know - such an iconic voice and version of this song and yet, not ever satisfied (that is what musical genius is - to always think it could be better).
yes it is and Kurt Cobain got alot from John, i wouldnt disagree that John was the first grunge rocker, not just the raw voice but also the honest lyrics. (btw im not comparing them to eachother, john is god)
John’s hoarseness give Twist and Shout a whole lot of character. It’s one of my favorite songs off Please Please Me (besides the title track and Anna) and I love the way it sounds!
My favorite Beatle #Johnlennon says this phrase because after 12 hours of recording he no longer had the voice to sing "Twist and shout". When he sang it, he himself once said "that he almost had to scream to sing that song," and it was done in one take. He didn't like it very much but the sound engineer, George Martin and the three Beatles loved how it turned out with that "heartbreaking" scream. In the end the song was perfect and I dare say that no one since then has sung this song like John Lennon. 🙏 @thebeatles Blessings from #Chile 🇨🇱🇬🇧
@@AngelCat310 I was in college, and the day John Lennon died was super depressing. Not because he was a Beatle. He was the American "Beatle". John had a messed up younger life, and was certainly not perfect, but what was cool about him is that he really worked on it, improving himself and advertising for peace with Yoko. He as an important force for good and he was snuffed out by the MK-Ultra mind-control B.S.
@@AngelCat310Same for me, too. I was 13 years old and had just started High School three months earlier and when it happened my art teacher Mr Harrison (no relation to George) wanted all of us pupils to help him paint a mural of his music hero outside the classroom door. I remember the mural itself like it was yesterday (no pun intended) and it was very heavily based on a profile photo of John that was taken by his good friend (and professional photographer) Bob Gruen in 1974 to help promote John's 'Walls And Bridges' album. An iconic image.
This song is insane. So much energy, and John’s voice is AMAZING in it. Like, it doesn’t need to be over-produced or anything. It’s just a song that works, and the voice track works so much better than a clean one. It’s just unfiltered raw energy. It’s one of my favorite Beatles tunes to listen to.
The Beatles are a unique musical band. They created a unique atmosphere in the history of world music! This magic will never happen again... They are unique, different, original, fabulous! Beatle music changed my life forever. This song calms me down, makes me happy, brings me peace, helps me always believe in love! Thank you George, John, Ringo and Paul. You have been my heroes for 55 years...🎵🎵🎶🇧🇷
I mean if you think about it, this one vocal performance probably paved the way for all sorts of rock bands of the future when those guys heard someone “screaming” over a woman…and that selling records 😆 You can’t tell me guys like Plant, Tyler, Bon Jovi, Roth, etc didn’t listen to this song growing up and have the lightbulb turn on!
I wouldn't call it a "classic Beatles song," given that it was a cover of the Isley Brothers' hit. But, yeah, it's a classic Beatles performance and, thanks to Lennon's vocal, it's better than the original, IMO. It's THE definitive version!
Such a fantastic song. I always get a little down this time of year due to the way John tragically passed. It’s hard not to feel the devastation for such an immensely talented figure.
If he’d sung it perfectly it wouldn’t have been the extraordinary hit it was. The uncontrolled screaming is from the soul and precisely what drove the ladies crazy about this song and the Beatles. Soul! It’s a song about a man’s raw, passionate, infatuation for a woman. The way he sang it certainly struck a chord with women. I think every woman wants a man they like to go crazy screaming about how good they look when they dance like John did. Brilliant and true like all great songs.
Twist & Shout and She Loves You were the first two songs I remember hearing by the Beatles when I was a little boy. I’ll never forget how that music made me feel back then because it STILL makes me feel that way to this very day. ❤
Twist and Shout is one of my favorite songs from Please Please Me. I also love this short showing all the photos and clips from the Ed Sullivan Show. The Beatles are and still remain amazing, talented, and fab! 😍 💚💙🧡💖
The Johns voice in this song leaves me without words like no other song.. I would love if there were more songs with John singing that way, I simply lose my mind over it every time
I can’t imagining any other rendition of how John sang it. It was perfect. It was the sought-after round-up for the finale. The twelve-hour recording marathon may have had them drinking too much coffee, smoking too much, with some sleep deprivation thrown in, but it was a magnificent endeavor that proved the The Beatles, at that time, were the evolution of Rock-n-Roll.🎸
This interview sounds like it was recorded toward the end of John’s life, where he was always happy, and embraced the Beatles more, you know? It’s nice. I miss you, John.😊
I love the Beatles' version of this track, but I want to encourage anyone reading this to listen to the Isley Brothers' version as well. It's a good time
Nice to hear John Lennon's voice, and description of how they were in Hamburg. ! Hearing History by the History maker himself! My "Buddy Holly", as I saw him with his black horned rimmed glasses, and he SAW ME.....because he had his glasses on! ❤
