As a lifelong resident of Tornado Alley (Kansas), can confirm, no one goes to shelter no matter how early the warning is. We all wait until the last possible second and can see it with our own eyes. Can’t count how many times I’ve been told to go to my basement for shelter but can count on one hand how many times I’ve actually went.
1) how are you not gonna acknowledge the ICONIC twisters ride it out special effects ride at universal studios?! i was sooooo sad when it closed 2) the apex mountain of tornados is still the wizard of oz, as evidenced by the fact that the thing is named dorothy
Bill you win the "It's probably on Tubi" award for TRESPASS, It is and I'll be watching it tonight. 👏🏾 Tubi is 90% if I'm at Alamo drafthouse watching trailers for obscure films their almost always on Tubi.
Just re-watched Twister last week in advance of the new one, and one thing that really stuck in my craw… once a tornado is done terrorizing our leads it just disappears. Every single one toys with them then leaves.
Todd Field: Good actor. Great director. And..... *checks wikipedia*.... invented Big League Chew while being the bat boy for a baseball team that Kurt Russel played for?!?!?! WHAT?
Twister holds up really well. Great cast, great effects, soundtrack is good, shot beautifully. Its obviously not a serious documentary style storm chasers thing but its a fun ride
When I was in school, my meteorology teacher showed this in class just to prove how unrealistic it was. Hard to watch it now and not nit pick how a tornado can pick up a cow and a semi truck but a dodge ram is just fine. Still love Paxton and Helen Hunt is a childhood crush of mine. It's "The Suck Zone"... These guys are right, it's the comradery that makes takes this movie to the next level.
Bill Paxton seemed like the kind of guy that you might see at the grocery store on a Saturday afternoon and he wouldn't be surrounded by a phalanx of PR people. You might recognize him and say hello to him and he would actually have a chat with you. One of my favorites and definitely gone way too soon.
Don't get me wrong I am a fan of the show and I listen to almost all of them. And yet it's incredible how Simmons & co think of cinema just in terms of "American cinema".
Simmons saying Paxton could've played Clooney's role in Out of Sight is an *INFINITY* x hotter take than Luke Wilson/Indiana Jones. That is legitimately bonkers.
The first thing my girlfriend ever saw Phillip Seymour Hoffman in was Mission Impossible 3. From there on out anytime she sees him in a movie she asks me "Is that the scary guy from Mission Impossible?"
Hey, 🇨🇦 here. Chris' beloved Oilers experienced the deadliest tornado in Canadian history. We're in the season now and all of Alberta, Saskatchewan, and parts of Ontario will have several warnings and a few confirmed tornadoes each summer. I live in Calgary and we've had a couple watches so far. Costner's band was impacted by one that hit a music festival on central Alberta. If memory serves they were on stage when the warning hit.
Richter scale goes as follows not only is 6 7 8 bad, but every .1 also increases the Earthquake EXPONENTIALLY, so as an example, a 6.5 is bad, 6.6 is a lot worse, so on and so on... because it's measurement of magnitude, an it's in logarithmic scale, every whole number, makes an earthquake increase tenfold... also, that's just 1 of 3 parts. You also measure the energy release and its shaking intensity... thank you CSUF DEGREE.
Tornado alley resident here. We have more a bit time now and there are watches and warning all day. Picking Knits: why not chase the tornado with Dorthy activated? Is there a limited battery life? If it’s ready to go in Joe’s truck, it flies but the first tornado. Movie over. Most 1996 thing… Maps. No GPS, just a folded up, outdated piece of paper. Just head down a dirt road that might connect us to the highway we need at some point in the next 10 miles. Race horse name. The AAA KC Royals affiliate in Omaha is the storm chasers.
Twister is now out on 4k. I'm excited to get my copy this week. I hope you know when Twister came out in May that's usually during the peak months of severe weather season.
I laughed so hard during this episode! I lived in CA, my whole life. I've only experienced earthquakes. It'd be a lot scarier going through a tornado or a hurricane. I think, the only reason Bill was marrying Melissa was because he was on the rebound. He's still in love with Jo. And vice versa. After Melissa heard, what he told her on the walkie talkie, she was probably thinking screw this! I'm out of here!
37:15 Jan deBont tried to work in homages to Kubrick in his early films. In Speed, his first film, the LA subway that breaches the sidewalk at the end does so in front of a theater showing 2001. I like to think the twin tornadoes in the cow scene are a reference to the twins in The Shining.
Drive-ins showing older movies isn't so odd these days. We have four drive-ins nearby, and only two of them have converted to digital projectors. Many new movies are only available in a digital form, not on film reels. Those theaters will often fill in the schedule with horror double features and the like from what is avaialble on physical film.
What killed the dad? He gets lightly, carefully scooped up by the wind, then what? Maybe he floats slowly down and he's fine. Did they say they found the body? I reckon he just left. We also need to talk about Jami Gertz' hair and Van's hat. Also, would Jo and Bill really get back together after they split and Bill was engaged to someone else?
CR is a vital part of the Ringer, and he didn't know Shirley McClain was Warren Beatty's sister? Cue the GIF of the girl whiffing on catching the orange dodgeball!
Wasn't there some sort of weird deal where this played on NBC like a week after it stopped playing in theaters? My autismo never lets me down when it comes to remembering weird shit.
The original plan for the sequel was to have one of the leads be Bill & Jo’s kid. That was when Helen Hunt was trying to get one together. This one is, to the best of my knowledge, completely removed from the original.
he mentions in the clip it's from the godfather. fredo gets in trouble with moe greene because he's been ''banging cocktail waitresses two at a time'' ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-W02OC3CXGoo.html
