Myrtle Beach was awesome in the early 2000s. The problem now is that most of those hotels are 30+ years old and are being held together with fast-paced maintenance. A hotel with less than 10 years of age is just about your only option for a "decent" stay, but it's going to be expensive. High volume, rapid turnover room rentals don't leave any time for upkeep. Do yourself a favor if you're going to ANY beach; save up a little extra if you can and rent a house - even if it's just a small one. The experience is so much better, and there are no screaming morons to deal with.

I remember back in the old days, late 60's/70's long before internet, you just drove to your destination and hoped for a vacancy sign. Dad would go in, ask rates and the office person would take you to check out your room in person. Then you knew what you were getting. Of course today is more convenient knowing you have your chosen room reserved, picked out by hopefully honest reviews & photos. But things can be different from room to room, day to day, despite reviews.

They (the resort) should have sought legal counsel from a lawyer before responding on social media. I’ve worked in commercial cleaning and know that is NOT normal regardless of the area climate, it’s a cleaning issue. I assume that they turn the *Air Conditioning* unit off when there aren’t guest around in an effort to ‘save’ on the utility bills then turn them on when the guests are in their way or the unit is barely on, it’s not cool enough so the room stays humid.

Anybody else notice that this resort is about the ONLY place that publicly stated they are constantly treating"mold filled units on a regular basis? Couple of things about their Facebook excuse that struck me odd. 1. They stated they are fixing the mold, not performing mold remediation(which means doing A LOT more than just spraying Clorox bleach or painting over the mild with fresh paint to hide it, which is exactly what this room looks like was done before. Those walls SHOULD have at the minimum, the walls replaced and dry uncontaminated sheetrock hung in it's place. If the mold had spread enough through the drywall to contaminate the structural pieces, those have to be removed and replaced as well. Otherwise you are just covering a problem and hoping it goes away. This place is basicly spending $5 to hide a $900 per room problem that regularly leads to condemnations of dwellings if not PROPERLY & THROUGHLY addressed. You can't "fix" mold. It has to be completely removed and the high humidity in the building addressed, like all of the other resorts in Myrtle Beach clearly have been doing. That is why there aren't videos of literally every resort in Myrtle Beach having mold filled rooms 2. Why is it no other hotels/motels/inns in Myrtle Beach are having to regularly "fix" mild issues, being they are in the exact same environment as this place? Their statement tries to insinuate that all of the other hotels and motels on the beach have mold filled rooms all of the time also. Based on the multitiudes of good experiences with places that have 0 mold anywhere in their buildings, it makes their Facebook statement sound more like deflection or redirection from their own responsibility. The fact that the tv in the room looks like it was new maybe 15 years ago, further displays how much of the incoming revenue the hotel is investing vs pocketing. 3. Whoever is in charge of entering reservations and whoever was working the front desk at that hotel, both KNEW those rooms were "blocked for mold maintenance/removal". The guests have no way of knowing if the room was "being treated for mold". The desk person however, does. The hotel was only too quick to initially offer a refund, but ONLY if she took it down and helped them hide the deadly mold. I wonder how many previous guests there have developed physical ailments directly related to mold exposure after staying there, that the hotel paid off along with an NDA to keep their secret a secret? The fact they rented that room out anyway, and werent shocked or surprised about the condition of the room, indicates this is NOT by far the first time they have rented out a filthy room to a guest. They just didn't think it would go any further than an online BBB complaint this time. #4. Are the building inspectors being paid to overlook the mold? Are the health or building inspectors being shown staged rooms for their annual inspections and not allowed to inspect room "Blocked off for maintenance"? Or do the departments do like in TN, and announce to the business ahead of time what day the inspector is scheduled to inspect their hotel, and THAT is how they keep passing state and federal inspections. As bad as that room looked, and far spread throughout everything that the mold had gotten, It is evident it didn't just start growing over the last few weeks. At least not without the hotel leaving all of the windows in the unoccupied unit open all day and night for multiple weeks in a row AND with housekeeping not cleaning the rooms properly.

Wait… I own a condo in a resort that I have had for over 10 years, Not one issue of mold at all. It is in Panama City Beach Florida and I have seen the MOM and POP hotels/motels have this issue because they don’t keep it up… I have kept my condo up for a long time and people love it and leave reviews and that is important… I say that the girl did the right thing

It's not just here. I called about Molten Mountain having black mold everywhere inside with no ventilation. I was an environmental investigator at the time and the local health department said there was nothing that they could do... ridiculous

As it should be… if exposed to danger… not only should the money be refunded… but they should be compensated for the danger.

Instead of being genuine and giving her a refund while being apologetic, they give her an ultimatum and LIE that they offered a refund but she refused the refund. No. Y’all have her an ultimatum. That’s not an offer. This could’ve been a story abt how a hotel made a mistake and did everything to correct the mistake and instead it’s about a hotel who made a mistake and made more mistakes after that. Why punish your customer for exposing your awful conditions? Y’all put that lady in a moldy room and didn’t even want to give her a refund out of good faith. They “offered” an ultimatum out of wanting to control and conceal the truth. Rather she exposed your business or not, she deserves a refund. Awful customer service. Awful hotel. I hope she sues for her refund and any medical bills that’ll come from being exposed to that amount of mold. I don’t care how normal it is. Don’t put a customer in a room riddled with mold. Nonsense.

Those ocean front hotels there are so gross it's been that way for at least 40 years. You get a cleaner place staying off the strip.

There are hotels like this everywhere. They are not legit establishments. They are used for trafficking and drug exchange. There is a hotel in Eagan, Minnesota called Norwood Inn, and that place is scary, and not legit.

I hope they didn't actually stay in that room. Hopefully they found another place. I sure would not have with the health concerns. That resort needs to be shut down and she should have been refunded asap!

I bet money they were overbooked and an employee at the front desk (probably management) decided to pull the room from Out Of Order to sell it. This is common in the hotel industry (coming from a former employee of a hotel on the beach in the panhandle of Florida). Mold is also common in rooms on the beach in these States, due to our excessive humidity and idiot guests that leave their balcony doors open so they can hear the ocean. If you've ever left your balcony door open to hear the waves, congratulations, you cost that hotel thousands and caused this. *insert slow clap here*

Why have a balcony door if it causes issues, then?
@shannonelledge1313
@shannonelledge1313 3 месяца назад
@@thetaekwondoe3887 Because people pay more for rooms that have balconies. Corporate America wants the profits but doesnt want to take the responsibility of upkeep. Saw it first hand at the Hellton I worked at (franchise owned) right on the beach.

2002 went to Myrtle Beach w/ BFF ... while the mold wasnt that bad... the elevators had puddles of urine (carpet SOAKED) and piles of sand. Beer bottles in the hallways and LIVE ELECTRICAL WIRES hanging from the walls, curtains half torn. Thats all I remember, I am sure there was more. Management just shrugged. Seems like those hotels are for the college spring breakers ( who dont care about cleanliness ?) and those were normal conditions. No remedy offered. We cut our stay short.

If they were planning to address the mold issue why were guests even placed in that unit? Also that kind of mold buildup takes time. It's not overnight.

It is mind blowing that they think someone would want to come BACK to a disgusting place. Like restaurants that offer free food after disgusting meals. I really don't understand their logic😮😂😂
