I don't understand why they wouldn't put it in a museum that's part of History and it's really upsetting to see it go to auction and possibly be destroyed by some random person who wants to buy it :(
Exactly what I was thinking, that dress has a dark past attached to it, I feel so sorry for Judy. They put her on so many pills to lose weight for the movie too.
Instead of auctioning it and potentially lose it again, why not put in the Iconic Smithsonian Museum of American History along with the ruby slippers? I’m sure that will be beneficial for everyone as a whole
I know I said this before but I'm going to say it again this thing is absolutely priceless and it belongs in a museum, unless the person buying this dress is going to keep it in perfect condition I don't trust it...
Judy had to go through so much during the making of that movie, and this is literally all that remains of what she had to go through, this dress should be put in a museum, and not in some rich persons dress up bin.
I don't get it, why in auction? Don't they understand that this dress is a huge story from the Wizard of Oz, and it should be placed safely in the Museum. So everyone can see this beautiful dress from many countries around the world, they will hugely regret selling it in the auction. And if I don't mistaken, it was almost got in the trash and it can happen again. That is why it should be in the Museum!🤦🏼♂️
Maybe its just me, but I cant see that dress without thinking of all the abuse and sexual harassment Judy Garland experienced in the making of the film. Truly so sad.
@@mellowyellow1984 actually it is, she signed a contract so she couldnt do anything, and the little guys would put their hands up her dress and touch her and she couldnt do anything because no one cared. Its honestly horrible
You shouldn't be touching it with your bare hands. The oils can soak into the fabric. Eventually staining it. You should wear cotton gloves when handling any relic that could be damaged easily
I was about to agree but then I realized it’s not like the dress belonged to her. It wasn’t her personal item it should go in a museum like other famous props do
my mom works at the archives where this was found! it was actually found in June, stuffed in a trashcan in the stacks! It was donated to some famous priest and it was only rumored that he had it until it was actually found. My mom got to see the real thing before the news broke, though!
@@jujub4553 i thinks she got to touch it, but she might have not have. It seemed pretty fragile but she did get a pretty sick picture for her instagram lol
My theater just recently did the show and it really made my fall in love with the dress even more then I already was. And my history nerd + fashion designer self wants it
I remember watching this movie at a very young age and watching all the colors on screen. I have read books about Dorothy and the Wizard. I have an entire book collection of the Wizard of Oz. I hope whoever gets this dress takes really good care of it.
Fun fact: the whole movie was shot in colour. The set and costumes were all sepia toned and makeup used used for the actors for the “black and white” parts. So there’s actually a brown dress out there too.
Such a shame that some rich person will buy this and keep it in their house where they'll be the only ones to see it. It belongs in a museum for everyone to admire!
To the Academy of Motion Pictures: buy the dress and put it in your museum, you already have the Ruby Slippers. Surprised they haven't made an offer yet.
I'm pretty sure this isn't the only dress that was made for the movie. I remember going to the Experience Music Project in Seattle several years ago and this dress was on display, so I don't think it should be that big of.a deal if one of the duplicates wound up in private hands since at least one of them is in a museum.
I would hate to see this be bought by someone overseas. This should have been privately auctioned to museums and let ONLY museums be the bidders. No private money at all.
Can Judy Garland rest in peace already. That poor girl. A victim. Had to smoke just to get through Hollywood horror. And that pocket was for cigarettes not a handkerchief, that damn dress. May it be destroyed by the ages of time. And Judy can rest in peace. And this is coming from a die-hard wizard of oz fan.
This is very sad. This dress doesn't belong to the highest bidder. It belongs to Judy, to cinematic history and to all those who cherish "The Wizard of Oz". The ruby slippers (also worn by Judy) that were stolen from the museum in Grand Rapids Minnesota, where Judy was born and had happy memories as simply being Frances Ethel Gumm with her family, have been recovered. It's my opinion that the dress should be returned there if her children don't want it.
How about you put it in a museum like the Original Yoda puppet so that future generations can see and study about one of the most iconic costumes ever instead of just selling it to some random person who will just display it in their living room...
I wish history wouldn’t just be sold like this. We got so lucky finding that dress after it was lost and now they just throw it to the wind again to make a quick buck just bleh sucks.
They let people touch it, it's in bright direct light and exposed to uncontrolled temperatures as well as being given away to a stranger... This dress should be in the Smithsonian with the ruby slippers.
All I have to say somebody better not wear that damn dress.. it’s historic and belongs in a museum. When she touched it I was like “don’t touch it!!” Our hands have oils, and it’s getting on the dress!!
I hope whoever buys it doesn't try to wear it. It ultimately belongs in a museum as a significant piece of Americana, not to mention Judy's misery that is a part of its legacy. And there's just so much misinforming about it; its been said that there was four copies, then it was said there was only two copies. Duplicate copies of costumes were often made in case of mishaps. Now there seems to be only one. I know it got displaced again after Debbie Remolds died. And wasn't there a model prancing about in it at some point recently?
Why would someone from a church give it up I would’ve kept it for ever till I decide to put it up for a key history museum like Marilyn Monroe’s president dress
The only likelihood someone would buy this would be a kid who had great memories of their parents watching this. Who happens to be very wealthy these days.
