The good thing abot this programe is u learn every time some thing new. We are told Hutus and Tutsis are the same ethnic groupe who look the same and hardy to differentiate. Does Mr. Yared really believe in what he says or just tells what comes in his mind.
Dear Mamo1896, since the Rwanda genocide quite a lot of people have tried to study the differences between the Hutu and Tutsis. The remark is as follows: Hutus and Tutsis have the same language; the same religion; the same culture. They have lived intermingled for centuries on the same land, in the most densely populated part of sub-Saharan Africa Of course there are differences, Do I look like my brothers? No. Look Daniel Berhane and Tewdros Adhanom are a member of a Tigrean nationalism group but one can anyone tell the physical differences, one is light skin the other is darger, one has curly hair the other is kinky, one is taller and the other is shorter. Should their be the same "ethnic group", in fact, if such a distinct ethnic group exists? Do the Oromigna speakers people from Wellega, Guji and Harrar look like the same?. Is there no difference between Welloye, Gojame and Shewe etc. If one try to find a difference for political reason, of course, one can find a physical differences between boys and girls born in Bole, Cherkos and the rural Ethiopia? The good thing is the genocide had triggered a detailed scientific study here is the conclusion about Hutu and Tutsi DNA. Y-DNA (paternal) Modern-day genetic studies of the Y-chromosome generally indicate that the Tutsi, like the Hutu, are largely of Bantu extraction (60% E1b1a, 20% B, 4% E3). Paternal genetic influences associated with the Horn of Africa and North Africa are few (under 3% E1b1b), and are ascribed to much earlier inhabitants who were assimilated.] Autosomal DNA (overall ancestry) In general, the Tutsi appear to share a close genetic kinship with neighboring Bantu populations, particularly the Hutu. However, it is unclear whether this similarity is primarily due to extensive genetic exchanges between these communities through intermarriage or whether it ultimately stems from common origins: [...]generations of gene flow obliterated whatever clear-cut physical distinctions may have once existed between these two Bantu peoples - renowned to be height, body build, and facial features. With a spectrum of physical variation in the peoples, Belgian authorities legally mandated ethnic affiliation in the 1920s, based on economic criteria. Formal and discrete social divisions were consequently imposed upon ambiguous biological distinctions. To some extent, the permeability of these categories in the intervening decades helped to reify the biological distinctions, generating a taller elite and a shorter underclass, but with little relation to the gene pools that had existed a few centuries ago. The social categories are thus real, but there is little if any detectable genetic differentiation between Hutu and Tutsi.[8] Tishkoff et al. (2009) found their mixed Hutu and Tutsi samples from Rwanda to be predominately of Bantu origin, with minor gene flow from Afro-Asiatic communities (17.7% Afro-Asiatic genes found in the mixed Hutu/Tutsi population).[9] Anthropological argument The Rwandan myth of the Tutsi and Hutu difference was perpetuated by the Belgian Colonial Administration, helped by filmmaker Harmand Dennis during the 1930s. sungrammata.com/the-rwandan-myth Dear Mamo 1896, ethnicity is social constructs. That is why Anuak and Nuer think they are different, Hamessen and Agame Awraja think the different, Gondere and Kimant think they are different. In fact the bigger is the similarity the bigger is the hatred.
neftegna is my grand fathers and mothers ,who gave their neck to the invaders just to give us this free land and cultures that every ethnic groups enjoying today. The amazing thing is it is the bandas descendents and cheap yadig cadire , who misnomerly used the term neftegna and loaded this infected and distorted meaning to young generation so that we are suffering upto now and ....God bless Ethiopia
If u don't know y u talk about 42 years ago y u don't say something about right now what's going on right now never been like this that ever!!!!!!!🇧🇯🇧🇯🇧🇯🇧🇯🇧🇯🇧🇯🕊🕊🕊
Amin Abdella When your leaders become a dictator and start governing by the gun, they will be called Neftenya. TPLF ran a neftenya system in the past 27 years. Most African countries have a neftenya system. Neftenya has nothing to do with ethnicity, there were many Oromo neftenya in the so called “Amhara rule”.
When you speak it has to be with knowledge. Hutu and Tutsi might have same language and same religion but they don’t have similar physical features. Do your homework first before you speak on media. Why is the current so called activists don’t talk about the 17 years of Derg land reform?
Dear God is in HIs Throne, I had a similar view about Hutu and Tutsi before I read the book we reviewed at the discussion ( Why Not Kill them all www.amazon.com/Why-Not-Kill-Them-All/dp/0691145946 Then I did my own research which is highlight below before I came for the discussion. Some say, Tutsi's are taller, but they were made rulers by the Belgian for the last 80 years. Diet and lifestyle has more to do with the height. I did reply to the same question to Mamo1896. I am just copying it here. Honestly since the Rwanda genocide quite a lot of people have tried to study the differences between the Hutu and Tutsis. The remark is as follows: Hutus and Tutsis have the same language; the same religion; the same culture. The only valuable point is the one you talked about driving habit. It goes with civilization. Not sure why the khat chewer talk about teff, but yes neftegna is broken, thanks to the struggle of oppressed people of the nation. To be clear neftegna is menelik soliders who were armed instrument of violence begotten by selling Eritrea and east part of the nation to colonial masters of the day. The Banda Menilik suck up to the colonialists in exchange for the arms. He used the arm and neftegna to concur and subjugate the Oromo and nationalities in the south. Willingly or not there were individuals from other ethnic groups that served in the neftegna army. However the neftegna are mainly from what is know as Amhara today. The ethiopian orthodox church also gave blessings to legitimize the brutal and cruel treatment of the natives by the neftegnaa. If any one is syphetetic to neftegna these days, he/she should be condumned just as any normal person to Hitler and Mosoloni. Fashcisim should not be praised any where. In this regard the pm did dissapointing job of remembering Menelik, the hitler of the day, as honerable leader. It is a big mistake and betrayal to the struggle of opressed that brought him to the pm position he seems to enjoy.
