ALF follows the adventures of Gordon Shumway, a furry, wise-cracking alien from the planet Melmac who crash lands into the garage of the Tanner family. The Tanners offer him a home and give him the nickname ALF, short for “Alien Life Form.” Created by Tom Patchett (The Carol Burnett Show) and Paul Fusco (who also performed as ALF), the half-hour sitcom rose to popularity in the late 1980s, cementing itself in the pop culture zeitgeist.

Yup.it means they show became too formalic and safe.they use a baby to spice things up and keep viewers invested.😊

Omg Alf made 6 bucks an hour babysitting in those days. He could have built a spaceship with that cash. In the 80s babysitting only paid 2.50 3 dollars max

I think they were using a Hollywood pay scale. I've always been amazed at the salaries cited in old movies. Most of the country's pay scales still haven't caught up!😁

In this season they had a baby it's to bad that the show ended in this season and we didn't get to see Eric grow up, I've thought that maybe they should have a Alf reunion show unfortunately Max wright AKA Willie tanner and John la Toya AKA Trever have passed away

They could do one where Alf comes back to console the Tanner kids who are missing their parents and do a clip show recap and then Alf lives with Lyn or one of the sons. And if they get the couple from the ALF movie to be in it too that would be cool. It would be hilarious to get Alf talking about the internet, smart phones, Musk and other modern celebs, and memes.

That's how they should have ended the show, with Alf being shown to the world. Instead of that dumb ending with him being captured and don't get me started with Project Alf. I just pretend they don't exist.

Project ALF must have been an afterthought; it aired on a different network (ABC) quite a while after NBC axed the series. On one hand, it kinda-sorta tied up the story for ALF…..but agreed, it was very lame without the Tanners. Better for us to enjoy the 4 years of series gold…….

Oh when ALF mentioned a transgender man who was having a sex change, he said “Don’t you remember, she’s out becoming MR. Applebon.” It’s not a big deal now but for the 80s that was surprising (I have a BA in Sociology)

I found a free item at a thrift store not long ago - am ALF embroidery/counted cross stitch booklet/pattern with instructions (not a kit sadly but it was free, so)! It's so weird! It says "welcome to ALF'S kitchen!" And has all kinds of cat related items lol like "hairball fritters, deep fried cat tails, wilted kitten salad, feline mignon", and my favorite, "Manx Mousse" 😁 I can't wait to sew it!

However, the VAST majority of people didn't own a cellphone at the time and those who did didn't usually carry them around in their pockets as they were way too bulky. I suppose I should have said, 'Ah, the days before cellphones were commonplace...', although I didn't really feel like I had to at the time because most people would have simply understood what I meant.
