I don’t know if there’s a place more iconic in Belgrade than Ada Ciganlija (Ada for short, and more lovingly referred to as “More Beograda” - Belgrade’s Sea), aside maybe from downtown.
Ada, is a river island that has been turned into a peninsula, located in the Sava River’s course through central Belgrade, Serbia. This popular recreational zone is most notable for its beaches, restaurants, cafés and sports facilities, which, during summer, can have over 100,000 visitors per day and up to 300,000 visitors over the weekend. It’s a definite must see if you’re in Belgrade. ☀️☕️🍹

Thank you for showing Ada Ciganlija! I am ashamed to say that although I lived in Belgrade and visit now very often, I have never been to Ada. Can you believe that? Next time I really must go, it looks very nice. Thank you ...

Ada in Turkish means "island"..most probably it originates from Turkish.

Yes that is my understanding as well (that the word is of Turkish descent).

nije tacno,The name Ciganli could be a toponym of the Celtic words "singa" and "lia" which mean island and underwater land. The name Singalia evoked the variability of the water level of the Sava, so that when it was low it was Singa, while when it was high it was Lia. Over time, this name turned into Ciganli.

@@miodrag0078 Im not referring to Ciganli rather "Ada". Yet grammatically "Ciganli" is also Turkish. Meaning "a place with cigani/gypsies...so when you combine the two words it means "the island of gypsies"...Again, in short, ADA by itself is Turkish, and the grammatical usage of "Ciganli" is also Turkish.."li" is a suffix, connotating possession, meaning "with gypsies" or "of gypsies". In Turkish gypsy is "çingene"...which is similar to "cigan".

Most people speaks English. So far I don’t have any problems communicating with people here, except one lady was at the train station but it’s very easy to get around and will always find someone to help if needed.
