Well could you watch the video and share it, if possible? I am making videos to introduce how visually-impaired people manage our daily housework and how we can work, using computer as evidence that blind people can work like others. The reason why I have started making these videos both in English and Japanese is I have been rejected to apply for a job because of my disability. They said they cannot arrange special support for examination, such as transcribing questions of English test into Braille. Without Braille transcription, I cannot take the job exam, so I cannot apply for the position, even if I cover all requirements or conditions. When a staff called me to reject my application, he said, “Do you know this position is to work abroad. Working abroad must be impossible if you have disabilities. Also, did you check the conditions? Applicants should have enough foreign language ability and master’s degree.”
I thought explaining about me (I cover all requirements) is meaningless since they do not guarantee accessibility to take exam for me. So I didn’t say my background.
He may think, persons with disabilities cannot work abroad, do not know
foreign languages and do not have master’s degree. Getting the job has been my dream for more than three years, it is a position in the Philippines, actually.
I have improved my carrier to for several years to get the position, I took my master’s degree to apply for the position. However, this is the reality.
I cannot take examination so cannot apply because of my blindness?
Give me back my time.
Some people told I should introduce the case in public as discrimination and
fight, but I didn’t think it was the best way to achieve social
participation for persons with disabilities. Some miracles were happened in the Philippines to improve educational situations for the blind, when I did such projects, we never fought with Philippine government but invited them or included them, right? This is my way for improvement, never fight but include them. So to get my dream, now I need to include or
attract Japanese government. When I can see politicians or ministers and can ask them to accept me for the position, what I need to show is evidence about how we can work through the video.
I hope the videos expand opportunities of social participation for persons with disabilities. Since I am making all videos both in Japanese and English, I am happy if they help my Filipino blind friends.
