Description: This August 19, The Wire put out in public domain a set of audio tapes submitted to the Commission of Inquiry on Manipur Violence set up by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs. The deponent/s claimed to the Commission that the tapes were recorded during a meeting held by the CM at his official residence last year. The deponent/s claimed to be participant/s of the meeting and stated that it was the voice of the CM N Biren Singh. The audio tapes contain explosive contents including taking credit for the ethic conflict which took over 200 lives and displaced at least 60,000 people belonging to the Kuki and Meitei communities.
The Commission has given the deponent/s confidentiality keeping their safety in mind.
