“Car Repos Are SURGING” - High Rates Causing Americans to Miss Car Payments

Car repossessions have surged 23% from last year and are 14% higher than pre-pandemic levels, according to a July 2024 Cox Automotive report. With fluctuating car prices, high-interest rates, and rising living costs, it's crucial to maintain open communication with lenders to avoid falling behind on payments.

Yep, all due to the socialist "free" handouts over just 18 months. The hangover from "free" money is always going to trump the euphoria of getting free paychecks for a year or 2. Now everyone's stuck with leftover 50% inflation while they only make 8% more, and then they lose their income entirely. On the bright side, homes will be 60% off in 2 years but it'll be bittersweet because it'll be accompanied by all-time high unemployment.

Poor decisionmaking. Everyone wants to blame anything but their poor decisions. When your car note is $800 a month, you're upside down. Insurance, maintenence, higher fuel costs, and other intangibles make your monthly car costs much higher if you don't take them into account. I keep seeing everyone blame everything but themselves for poor decisionmaking. Purchasing a vehicle and dropping a grand a month on it is a foolish waste of money. Trailerpark rich can't afford to pay that much, even if you live with mom and dad.

Great reset is supposed to make the great depression look like a walk in the park.. its money and wealth transferring happening right in front of everyone.. but not many people I guess know how economics works.. the vehicles being taken will be sold at auction to dealerships who will rinse and repeat the process.. to the new labor force that just came across the boarder.. the companies all grab their cuts and double dip in the process.. almost like there are incentives to make people default vs allowing them to complete the terms of the loan and gain ownership of whatever property.. is how its looking more and more.

Yeah maybe in a normal economy it’s about keeping up with the Jone’s.. but this is much different. The basic cost to buy and maintain a car is astronomical right now ($150hr and climbing labor rates). Add in other factors when trying to purchase such as suboptimal credit or negative equity and you can get buried quick, especially if you don’t have a chunk of cash to put down. Also keep in mind skyrocketing insurance cost’s.. we are in an affordability crisis right now (like we’ve never seen before). Also if prices keep falling at some point the consumer will just give the car back to the bank and repo rates will soar. The same can be said about housing. Interesting to see how this all shakes out..

@RocketRenton
@RocketRenton 2 месяца назад
@@PNW_Sportbike_Life It's been going on now since The Great Depression, watch the film with Jeremy Irons and Tucci, after the 2008 financial crisis, sitting there on the day it all happened in the restaurant, going through all the years since the 30's, and every time they make a lot of money from both joy and misery, he said this and we also never learn from any of the mistakes made, all based on true evidence and story. I was about to buy a house in 2007, on Boxing Day my father told me to back out of the deal, he said we would end up in a generation of debt and something is about to come very soon round the corner, so I did and then it all came true 6 months later in 2008. After 2008 the problem is we didn't learn, QE was used for stimulus, interest rates of 0.1% were maintained, lending rules were tightened for mortgages, but then new companies came along like Klarna to circumvent lending rules offering buy now pay later, payday loans etc, and now we have the issues we face today, with all the geopolitical stuff ongoing as well which is like the 70's in similar circumstances with the wars, and fuel crisis. QE was the worst thing all of the countries have used across the world, born in Japan in the 90's, and used in most western countries, people being approved for very low interest loans in all markets, then when the interest goes up, they can't afford the payment, add the cost of living crisis, covid and inflation, this is what you get. It goes back to the bible, borrowing off peter to pay paul.....
@enthused7591
@enthused7591 2 месяца назад
The MUCH scarier part is that banks gave out millions of mortgage loans from 2020-2023 of $325,000+ to people with "good" credit when their income was under $70,000 and they had under $10,000 in savings. The 5 million people in that situation who are literally losing their jobs entirely by the tens of thousands per month and accelerating are going to prove to be an exponentially worse situation than the "subprime" loan crisis of 2006-2008. I'd trust a person with a 500 credit score making $42,000 a year to make their $800 mortgage payment on their $150,000 house in 2008 while unemployment is skyrocketing before I'd trust a person with an 800 credit score making $62,000 to make their $2,400 mortgage payment on a $325,000 mortgage today while unemployment is skyrocketing, because that second individual didn't see their cost of homeowners insurance, groceries, and utilities bills all going up 60% simultaneously immediately after "buying" that $325,000 home. This crash is going to be 40% worse than 2008-2010. It's wildly simple math, and without exception ALL the math is worse than the 2007 bubble. The bottom 85% of earners would literally ALL need an immediate 30% raise in the next 2 months to avoid complete collapse, but the median income will fall 4-6% because that's what happens when unemployment triples.

When he called from my house because their phones were in the car he told the lady he had to go to the bank. I was flabbergasted, they get almost $7000 a month between pension and social security and he couldn’t make his payments because he’s lazy or something. He has the $3000 some odd dollars to pay them about 4 days later. He had to drive 2 hours away to go to his other bank because he doesn’t have checks or a card on that account. Thereby, leaving the finance company to repo a vehicle with a blown motor! Way to go GM 👍

FOOD COSTS ... I just spent 20 for a gyro.... Every food item almost is through the roof .the average grocery cart has gone from 150 to 210 in five yrs. Credit card default is at a 16 year high exceeding 2008 and the total amount is a new record, Gas prices have gone from 2.33 to 3.52 on avg since 2019. Insurance costs have doubled in most areas... I'm struggling to see how they pick a single item to be concerned with. "They" dont call it the "Great Reset" for nothing. In 5 years rented cars 7 times for a total under $1000 or $17 a month and $80 for commuting, less than $100 total. I had coworkers driving to work spending $700 a month more than me on all-in automotive and transportation expenses. That was 20% of our salary at the time. Crazy.

Here is an idea. Ppl stop being mindless consumers and quit buying these overpriced vehicles. $77k for a truck ?!? And $55k for a normal car?!? I’m 39. I had 14 trucks since I was 18. I paid $33k for new truck in 2007. And kept trading in every two years when I started to get upside down. These vehicle are so overpriced that once you buy you are already upside down. Same with houses now. I had my old 2002 f250 with 500k miles. I just fix what broken on my own. Girls don’t like it but it’s paid for !!! May not help with my single life. But ppl do care how they are perceived more than anything. I wish I can Uber to work but I work 60miles one way. If the average annual wage is $50k. And car payments are more than one person pay check. Thats too much. It should never be more than half of one weekly check other half is insurance. Then ppl spend $1300 a month for a truck and they finance for 7-8 years. Same with homes. It’s easier to get into brand new home. But new homes are HOA only and so overpriced you are underwater immediately. So bad build quality also. Used home you need to put 15-20% down. Ans ppl don’t have $30k in there bank account liquid. So it’s all by design and ppl love to “Keep up with the jones’ “ and it’s almost literally killing them. But good luck k. Trying to make a difference by sending a message. That’s not important. Look cool is. But it would be easier for me to pick up chicks in a new truck. I get judged right off the rip when I meet a girl for a date. They always pick the dude with a better truck. Even tho mine is the coolest and most bad ass. Girls are boosie

How to prevent a car repo: Never commit to any vehicle you can't buy in cash. I don't get why people are willing get into debt for a car they know they can't afford in cash but still want to show off to everyone. Used cars are worse. Not only has the price skyrocketed, the miles of used cars is nuts, buyers are having to finance 15 to $30,000 for a used vehicle with 50,000to over 100,000 miles, then having to pay exorbitant repair costs on transmissions or engines or other key systems.

I make between 80-150,000 a year and I just paid off my $6000 car loan for a car I got last year.
