I have heard it said that when you talk about it this is usually a cry for help or a threat to keep someone in line. I have experience in my long life of people who have been their usual selves after work saying “cheerio and see you tomorrow” only to hear on “tomorrow” that they had ended their lives after that last goodbye. Your first instinct is I wish I had noticed, but, of course, they didn’t want you to know. This is so heartbreaking and something you never get over. Yes, you might laugh again and go to a movie or go on holiday, but there will forever be that underlying sadness of someone missing.
It might have made her look weak. Or at least in her mind she might have thought that she wasn’t going to be able to answer the question and looked at as a victim but also as a strong, intelligent, caring person who is number one in everyone’s mind. I like the phrase the lady used at the end. ‘Just because she may have had suicidal thoughts it doesn’t qualify her to be able to support someone who has lost a child through suicide’ but in Megan’s mind it makes perfect sense and with her being a parent too there is no one better qualified for the role.
To me, the worst part was she said at the end, in front of those precious parents who had lost their son, that she loves when her children get home, and they are so happy, etc. That is mind-boggling insensitive when their son will never walk through their front door again.
