During the development of the game, Game Science worked with several top 2D animation teams in China to create six animated shorts for each chapter ending of BlackMythWukong.
The relic of the Great Sage in Chapter Five is a two-headed pig. When faced with a choice, each head of the pig desires to move forward, resulting in mutual tugging that ultimately leaves it standing still.Just like Bull king.Just like every one of us, especilly middle-aged people with families and kids.More often than not, we don't have any choice. Therefore, there are a lot of middle-aged players see this animation are filled with emotion
The title of the song "Destiny" in chinese is 《不由己》. And the relic of the great sage in Ch.5 is named "grieved body", which is “身” in chinese and could be combined with the title into a chinese idiom “身不由己”. It literally means "man can only do things against his will". In this chapter, the old bull demon king knows he was the gods' pawn all along, not only when he was summoned to kill his brother Wukong, but also when his son had been demanding the relic to take revenge on Buddha. He feels powerless against the gods, seeing his brother dying in his arms, seeing his family falling apart, that's his sorrow, his 身不由己. And in the ending cutscene, Wukong told the bull that he thought with enough merit and a position before the Buddha, the gods would leave him be, and all his kind including the bull as well. That's why he fought against the bull with the gods, just to protect the Tang master and serve the right. He thought it's the only path left for the likes of them, but apparently the path is just the gods another play. Wukong's betrayal to his brother and his death is his sorrow, his 身不由己. Plus the lyric of the song is sadly beautiful too. It's based on a monastic debate record called 《寒山拾得问对》.
4:30 The animation showed a couple of seconds of Nezha and people in China are already screaming for a DLC or a separate game featuring him, which really isn't a bad idea given how messed up his past/past-life was. Black Myth: Nezha, oh yeah.
So, for all those confused by the end animation of 5th chapter, here is the explanation. Everything in the animation happened, it's just that the events shown are not linear. Hundreds of years back, before the journey to the West, Wokong and the Bull became sworn brothers, and together they rebelled against heaven, which is the mid part of the animation where the Bull and Wukong fought side by side against the celestial army. That rebellion was also the first time Wukong fought Erlong (the three-eyes dude from the beginning of the game). They lost that fight and Wukong was captured and eventually imprisoned under the five-finger mountain for 500 years. Then the journey to the West took place, during that journey, Wukong and his gang ran into the Bull again. Wukong and his gang were blocked by this fire mountain and needed to borrow the Plantain Fan from the Bull's wife to quell the flame, but lots of shit happened and they made the Bull into an enemy (Bajie even killed his mistress). The Bull was so powerful that Wukong had to call for help from the celestial court to subdue him (he was defeated not killed, losing a head is nothing), this was shown at the part when Wukong and Bajie were talking down to the Bull. Then the journey to the West concluded, and time forward to the beginning of this game. Wukong fought against Heaven again, this time, the Bull and the four bosses from previous chapters joined Heaven's force to defeat Wukong. Hence 5 of Wukong's 6 senses were given to them as rewards, this is the part at the beginning of the anime. When the Bull held Wukong in his arms, he started to reminisce about the past. They didn't show Wukong fought the 5 of them in the intro, I guess more combat went on after Erlong thrust Wukong into the mountain. After that event, at some point, the Bull's son finds out about his own lineage and wants to take Wukong's "body sense" so he can become strong enough to avenge his people (rebel against Heaven like his dad and Wukong did). But fear for his son, he refused, thus the father and son are at odds now.
Actually wukong didn't betray him, the journey to the west means expiation for both of them. But the bull demon king didn't get that and didn't dare to cooperate with Wukong again.
This short animation is much better than most western movies released in theaters in recent years... Thanks to China for showing us how to make a work of art worthy of that name. ❤❤❤ I miss the old days so much, when we knew how to make movies and video games for entertainment... 🥺
"The way I saw it, with enough merit and a position before the Buddha, they would leave me be and all of you as well. Now I see, for someone like me, staying alive is enough to be a transgression." 😭😭
“Some say he helped Tang Monk fetch the Scriptures, was granted Buddahahood and stayed on Mount Lingshan thereafter. Some say it was not him who was granted Buddhahood. The real him was already dead on the journey to the west. Some say that the journey never happened. He is nothing but a monkey who lives in some storyteller’s tall tale. But now, you will hear a tale which no one has ever known.”
This animation is absolute peak! Got me so hyped up! Such incredible art and animation put together. Reminds me of an actual anime, idk what, but it's giving me Naruto vibes.
Three choices that the bull king made wrong: 1.Helped Wukong fight against the celestial court. (before the journey) 2.Didn't give Wukong the fan and help them pass the flaming mountains.(during the journey) 3.Helped the celestial court to kill Wukong.(after the journey)
Absolutely goegeous animation.🎉 This animation contrdicts with the opening scene on how Sun wukong has been defeated. I believe that this is the truth, Sun wukong under siege of six yaoguai kings and Erlangshen, and what happens in the opening scene was nothing but the old monkey's narative. For some reason he lied to the destined one. Perhaps the most complex character for me is the old monkey. No idea who he actually is so far.
