I watch these clips and sway from laughing like a drain, to feeling a sense of affectionate loss. I agree with those who suggest that Father Ted is probably the best written, produced and acted sit com we are ever likely to see.

Even though Father Fintan Stack was really obnoxious, he was freaking hilarious as well. Brendan Grace obviously understood the unconventional character he was taking on here.

How is TV dying ?
@misterpink808
@misterpink808 2 года назад
@@rodddrake It's going in the way of radio. Its such an old format. When I say TV, I mean broadcast television..you know.. with all the ads, schedules, watershed hours and advertisers and sponsors meddling with what can and can't be shown. Streaming and internet had cut out many of the old dinosaurs and the primitive formate of awful TV content. You know those documentaries where there is a recap every 10mins because they expect viewers to have just stumbled upon it because they were channel hopping. In order to keep channel hoppers in the loop they racap what's going on ad nauseum. This particular bit of Father Ted was being uploaded by many people for years and flagged for copyright because nobody at Hat Trick really had the vision to upload and monetize these bits. For a whole new generation of people that of under 50s that don't really watch TV, RU-vid is the place to keep old series alive and passing old series on to new generations.. but all the good fan favourite bits kept getting taken down. Now its 2022 and Hat Trick are a bit late to the party.
@rodddrake
@rodddrake 2 года назад
@@misterpink808 That seems a bit of a subjective argument. Many millions still watch regular TV,and every builder,every trucker,everyone who drives has a radio. Personally I find the thought of each person sitting at home,alone watching a RU-vid channel streaming their particular brand of entertainment or news on their laptop, quite Orwellian.
@misterpink808
@misterpink808 2 года назад
@@rodddrake Orwellian? How? RU-vidrs now have more subsribers and views than any TV ratings. This is content made by independent artists that can be accessed globally by their audience. They can be very niche things like Al Bladez who cuts and grooms peoples gardens for free as an act of kindness and in return he gets views and revenue through RU-vid. Gone are the days when some out of touch TV scheduler is commissioning shows based on what they think people like then riddling them with adverts. Imagine thinking watching a film that pauses for adverts is acceptable. Yes, millions still watch TV. Millions of people also don't wash their hands after they go to the toilet. Doesn't negate the fact that there are objectively better means for visual entertainment consumption ie. Streaming and cutting out old TV license nonsense. Its actually ridiculously backwards when you think about it. The TV broadcasts shows at certain times meaning you have to be there at a time to watch it. If you miss it you can record it while away. But you need a box for that and it's just putting a plaster over the initial issue. Try watching a good debate show on TV and its awful soundbites. Debate is interrupted by commercial breaks breaking the flow of any decent intellectual conversation. It's really quite pathetic. Radios are shipped as standard in trucks and cars and many trucks and cars are years old. That isn't an argument. Radio is riddled with adverts that aren't reletive to many users because they don't really know whos listening. Adds, weather every 30mins, time being told every 5mins, adverts, some music, cut short, more adverts. I find that more Orwellian. Modern radio is podcasts. The internet allows you to reach such specific and niche audiences that podcasts don't have to appeal to the widest audience or the lowest common denominator. So you have specific podcasts that can be for filmmaking, photography, psychology, serial killers, TV shows, gaming consoles. Dedicated podcasts that you can add in an app and you can view when episodes are released. You can listen to a podcast perhaps for an hour and it not be interrupted by adverts. If there are adverts thdy might be more niche and specific to the listener because they have the analytics of who's listening. Often the podcast host reads adverts and a good podcast host will only do adverts they want to do ie. Advertisers that won't try meddle in the content that is being created. Podcasts have replaced radio for the next generation because its objectively better. Its free and all you need is an internet connection. Less ads. More specified content. Listen at your own pace and at your own time. Podcasts allow the hosts the freedom to use colourful language, to drink, to smoke cannabis because they aren't beholden to sponsors. Podcasts shows can go on for 3-4 hours..Radio just won't have that. Show me the radio show that allows the hosts to speak their mind freely without some censor board coming down on them? TV is the same. Its old hat. It's for the older generation that haven't evolved with new places technology has gone. They'll sit channel hopping, hoping to land on n something they like and its already started. They'll sit through 5 minutes of ads every 15mins. They accept that people have to talk in a weird phoney TV voice because its "proper" and will be censored to bits because they depend on their advertisers. I think broadcast TV and Radio is Orwellian if anything. At least anyone can start their own RU-vid channel and be successful. By the people and for the people. Broadcast TV relies on what some old out of fashion dude decides to commission and broadcast when they feel what is best for you. Yikes.
