“Europe’s problem has become...” Italian PM, months after Jaishankar’s ‘European mindset’ remark

Italian PM Giorgia Meloni, who is on a maiden visit to India said that “Europe’s problem has become World’s problem”. Meloni’s comments months after EAM S Jaishankar’s strong remarks at 17th GLOBSEC Bratislava Forum in Slovakia. Last year, EAM showed mirror to Europe stating that “Europe has to grow out of the mindset”. Jaishankar said that “Europe thinks that Europe's problems are the world's problems but world's problems are not Europe's problems. Jaishankar made these comments amid persistent efforts by Europe to make India take tough position on Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. Meloni also blamed Russia for disrupting global energy prices and rising inflation.

As a Norwegian who comes from the same part of the world as Meloni, I’d like to pity the Italians for being represented by such a clueless figure. It’s simply embarrassing to see how our Western leaders are so self-centered and don’t have a clue about anything outside the Western world. No wonders, the African people, the Asians and Latin American people can’t stand us. We don’t get it because we’re so absorbed by our arrogance. We sanction Russia for invading Ukraine, but we reward and join the U.S for wrecking Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan, Yemen, Libya etc… We also look the other way when Israel wrecks Palestinian towns , occupies Palestinian homes, villages and massacres civilians. And we expect the rest of the world (80% of the world population) to respect us.

Since the mediaval history say from 1200 ad, when Roman Papacy ruled Southern Europe, Europe along with Northern Africa and Western Asia WAS the World. Therefore, then, Europe's issues were NOT the world's problems, as Europe was largely confused and trying to find its feet. The most aggressive opposition to Europe came from Islamic expansion, from Iberia to Eastern Mediterranean. Thus, Europe remained /kept on its toes until 1650, when an opening emerged. Islamists and Ottomans were on a declining trajectory at this time, and Europe got propulsion through successes in newly discovered lands, and colonisation in early 1800s. Thus Europe successfully becomes the centre of the world, and a habit developed to suggest that Europe's problems were world's problems. Now habits happen to die hard!
