Sometimes we are lucky to have people in our lives who see things in ourselves that we don't even see. I'd bet you dollars to donuts that line was written by Sorkin in honor of his sister, whose experience as a JAG inspired the story.

I had a buddy who was very hard to tell was drunk. He didn't slur, he didn't stagger around. I think he did pretty well. I think a more subdued drunk was the way to go with this. Only my opinion though.

Back when they made films great, so many wonderful moments of film craft on display here. Every single part is great, the editing, the camera placement and movement, the framing, the lighting, the blocking, the film score, and of course that incredible script.

The part of this scene that grabs me that no one ever talks about is when Danny says that he thinks his father would have loved to see him graduate from law school. This is very poignant. At this point he realizes that he is no longer in his father's shadow and that his dad would have been proud of him. You can see in his face how much that meant to him. Shows that his father was all business even with his son and it was at that moment that Danny appreciated that.

There's a guy called Legal Eagle who has a channel on RU-vid. He does videos once in a while about courtroom movies and how authentic they are. He said that in the real world Colonel Jessup would have never yelled "You Goddamn right I did". He said that no one, ever, becomes so rattled that they confess on the stand.

@@blackscreen1810 I don't care how egotistical, narcissistic and arrogant a person is, having those traits doesn't mean they are stupid. No matter how Jessup felt about the "lesser people" that surrounded him, he also knew that admitting to issuing the code red would end his career in disgrace and possibly land him in prison. The real world is full of Jessups but I don't believe any of them, in that situation, would admit to something that would have such devastating results just to make a point concerning their superiority.

When the MP's surrounded Jessup, they should have had Jessup make a mystical sign with his hands, which would have killed everyone in the courtroom, and then had him fly away out of an open window.

Jo was an idiot and a delusional idealist. Kaffee saved his own ass by merit of his own intelligence, his only mistake was getting involved in a case like this in the first place. In real life, there’s no chance some idiot attorney like Jo would’ve done what Kaffee pulled off.

She deserved a kick in the ass... Her "ready, fire, aim" approach was dumb, naive, irresponsible, reckless and damn near destroyed the case for both her and Kaffee's client... Plus on top of that, if Jessup wasn't such a hothead their careers would have been suicided... She was truly best suited for internal affairs and I mean that sincerely. In a court of law, I wouldn't trust her to be a stenographer 😅..

People may think this overstated about him being court martial. I did a case ar Fairchild AFB. I am a civilian. I filed a motion to have the judge removed for conflict of interest. I am a civilian. However, we are assigned a military lawyer, to ensure we are aware of UCMJ. Before the motion was heard my military adjunct had to appear before the court, ensure the court she had advised me not to file and did not support the motion. Funny thing, the Judge removed himself.

(I have seen this movie at least 4-5 times and never thought of that....I suspect at the time it probably flew under the radar since driving intoxicated was still a little bit normalized in the early 90s - which has changed quite a bit to where it is now)

Well, he’s an attorney so he knows his rights if he gets pulled over. Second of all, it was pouring rain at night so lots of times police aren’t wanting to get out as much in it and it’s harder to really tell if somebody is vearing off the lines with although rainwater on the ground and also people drive much slower in pouring rain.

Was I the only one who was thinking why Kaffe was soaked and wet when first got in the house, I know it was raining but he has a car and it's like he was walking in the rain, and also why did Galloway just took off walking in the middle of the rain as if she couldn't be called a taxi and last, why did Sam let Kaffie drive when they went to get Galloway when it was already understood that Kaffee was drunk! So the irony here if a cop would've pulled him over that would have been a Navy officer who happened to be a lawyer in the JAG! LOL!!!! I LOVE HOLLYWOOD MOVIES!!!!

There are several levels of drunk. I had been like that before, still coherent, just a bit wobbling and more bold expressing myself, exactly like Cruise was here. Then look in the mirror and note who was watching.
