I tell people all the time that "these podcasts/shows are windows to see what we already know: most of these dudes have no idea how to play the sport that they are the "top professionals" at. That's why "listen to players" is such a touchy subject to us."

The expectations put on them. You know what’s crazy if dame was hitting his open looks, all of this would be no problem. But he isn’t and isn’t as portable as we thought his skill set was so the expectations are lower now it is what it is
Low has been pretty nasty with the bucks hate this season. It's weird, even last night against OKC again proved dame isn't a bad defender. He's hoping they fail fr. Yet if you let Low tell it he's the worst defender of all time.
They are the two seed but they are not good enough to win in the playoffs the way they're playing. Super inconsistent and awkward. The Celtics seem like a much better team. Their talent is carrying them in the regular season but once we get into the playoffs, they have lots of flaws thatll be exploited especially with their bad coaching and bad chemistry.

I find it really embarrassing how former players who’ve actually played in the Nba like Gil and perk keep talking about Giannis as if he’s supposed to be number 2 to dame who’s won NOTHING Dame has been inconsistent all season of course it’s not fully his fault since the bucks switched coach mid season but efficiency wise he’s simply been poor compared to his time in Portland that’s a fact so for them to keep saying giannis has to sacrifice this has sacrifice that is ridiculous, dame needs to start playing more off ball and not stand like a cone the second he hands the ball to Giannis.

People talk about how the bucks are 16-1 when Dame scores 30+ nobody mentions Giannis stats during those same games which is like 30 11 and 6 the problem is a lot of their losses Giannis has those same stats and Dame is missing so basically when both show up they win when Giannis just shows they mostly wins
One note about Giannis in the PNR- not only is he still learning how effectively roll, but I think he has trouble with how to set a good screen without getting called for an illegal screen, whereas other players get away with it all the time. Brook Lopez is an excellent screen setter because of his size but also because it's a borderline moving screen every time. He gets called for it every so often but he makes it worth it. Giannis doesn't seem to be able to hit that same sweet spot, and everything he does on the court is under a microscope. So he either sets screens that are timid and easy to get around or he fails to get away with a push or moving screen like many of the other bigs in the league do.
Giannis screens are fine dame just wait too damn long to pass the ball. All he is doing is looking to score. If this was Steph or someone else it would have been better.
So let me get this straight, Giannis is having his best offensive season of career but it's his fault for the teams struggles? Dame is missing white open threes and quiet as keep Middleton has been a pnr passer than Dame this year.

Norris cole knows basketball, he's simply saying thay giannis makes it easier for everyone and they should be able to hit wide open shots when doubling or tripling on giannis
The Bucks have looked like a different team with Doc and we literally have one of the best offenses in NBA history with Dame, Giannis, and K Midd in the lineup. Yes, Dame performs better when the offense is ran through him. The team is the best when we run the offense through the mismatch. Period.
I think some of yall dont know what people mean when they say they want to run the offense thru dame. Its more he should be the guy to have the ball and set everything up and have to make descions. Like to give it to post ups and go in pnrs and stuff like that. Other than have him in the corner while Giannis has it at the top of the key. Cause it feels like dame plays better when hes more involved in the offense and the team in general does as well. Its not take Giannis out of the offense and play him like a role player cause they still gonna give it to him in the post and on dives and even on isoes but its more have the ball in dames hands and make everything go. @@collinwallace7107I’ve been watching every game this season, and Dame isn’t as great of a passer as people make him out to be. I’d argue the Bucks best passer is actually Khris Middleton, but unfortunately he’s not a great ball handler. Dame’s got two things he does very well. He’s really great at making tough outside shots, and he’s super quick, which makes him an excellent slasher. He only really draws doubles out at the 3 point line. Giannis draws doubles in the post. Middleton cooks with them both out there because Middleton sees the attention they get and makes the right play. The Giannis/Dame/Middleton trio on the court has an offensive rating of 125 and a defensive rating of 107. This is tops in the nba. It’s overblown that there are actually any major issues. People may want Giannis to be a traditional big, but he’s not. What makes him so scary is off the dribble, what he can do to get to the rack in a different way than Dame does. Dame is a solid passer mind you. But man, he misreads passing angles and awful lot and is t good at lob passes (and never was good at them in Portland either). Dame is great at closing games. Also, nobody wants to talk about it but Dame has been a really good defender, especially under doc. Same straight up said he told doc he’s ready to play defense because he doesn’t feel like he has to carry the load on offense, and it shows. He’s doing very well on that end. I think people like Gil, who admittedly has trashed Giannis for years, is going to think the guy with the “biggest bag” should be running the show. Never mind lillard is an aging player who has never won while Giannis is in his literal prime. In the end, the trio is a world beater, and people are talking out their ass
and also people need to realize Dame is our only PG of course we are 1-5 without him. We traded all our pgs guys for him. And in all the games Giannis missed we haven't faced a team that applies rim pressure like that

I’m not going to act like there isn’t reasons and contract for him missing but we have to either acknowledge he’s a number one option who didn’t get it done or he’s a number 2 option and we’re just holding higher than we should
@@superiorvibes4639 i mean dame was injured the season after that one and he only played like 29 games, the next season is less excusable but he averaged 32 7 and 5 it’s just a testament to how bad Portland is rather than how credible dame is. The 2019 wcf is a much more valid showcase of him underperforming and that’s what I’m really worried about is him choking then.
His playoff numbers are awful for the most part. He has had so,e iconic moments but he is a massive playoff dropper, his percentages and numbers are worse than hardens who is also a dropper (particularly in close out games).
So we pretend like the Milwaukee team isn’t 10x better than any team Portland has had aside from 2 years of his career and that’s minus Giannis . Crazy to say for some reason players would rather play for Milwaukee than for Portland they couldn’t recruit any one of real value to effect the team
Gianni’s’ offensive gravity arguably gives dame the most space he has ever had.. similar to how when Zion is on the floor and anywhere within the 3 pt line he gets doubled Giannis gets the same treatment which should give dame more open looks and more efficient shots from behind the arc
He has a point though. Dame has been hooping they played the top 4-5 teams with out Giannis and won. The problem isn’t Giannis, it’s how they gonna figure out getting portis and the others involved because the ball doesn’t really swing that much when it’s just dame and Giannis , but when one or the other is out the team is genuinely hooping. They just gotta figure out rotations that’s all whether it’s dame finishes with the second unit and Giannis starts with them. But the bucks talent wise on paper are actually stacked 😂
Difference is Dame has been way more aggressive without Giannis.Also, the suns and clippers aren't top 5 teams recently no offense to them.The Clippers recently have been garbage. They literally blew a 20pt lead in the 4th to Dame with no Khris or Giannis. The Suns game KMidd came back and the team shot like 60% from 3. Nurkic left Bobby wide open like a dumbass. The Celtics game its more about the Celtics than the Bucks because they were controlling the game by 15+ points till like the last 3min they left the door wide open for us. But yes Dame is 100x more aggressive vs complacent.

As someone who has played in the P&R as the roller AND the ball handler with all types of different hoopers and tendencies, I understand what Gil is saying absolutely. The screener/roller is ALWAYS the common denominator. Fuck what coach says.

I don't know why people don't get this. Giannis should be the anchor on the team, defend, get rebounds and points on offense, but leave the ball movement, floor spacing and offensive pace to dame. Nobody is saying one is better than the other, when stating accolades obviously Giannis comes out on top but Bucks having Dame and not balancing out the offense to dame and defense to Giannis would be downright stupid. Giannis needs to do what Steph did for KD in warriors for dame, give him enough space to be himself and take a few steps back, assess his leadership role by leading from the back instead of the front. Unlike kobe and shaq, Giannis and dame are not aggressively dominant but they are both just as stubbornly set in their ways and mindset, as shaq put it to dame during the all star weekend to stop playing nice and walking on eggshells around each other, someone has to bring in the conversation that if both of them don't work in tandem no matter how close they get to the goal, they'll fall short. I hope for dame's sake he gets a break and gets three titles at the least with Giannis and the bucks as a team, and maybe an mvp. Hope it works out. Praying with anticipation. Arenas point of view is not wrong guys it's just the delivery and there's no need to bash dame for everything. Of all nba trios, the Milwaukee Bucks trio of Middleton, Dame, and Giannis lead the nba in net rating - both because they average more points together and have the best defense together. It’s better than any 3 player combo of players the Celtics have. Bucks have 5 of the top 12 trio combos, the only bucks player in all 5 trios is Giannis. Middleton appears the 2nd most, dame the least. But together, they are near unstoppable. The narrative is insane and the numbers back up how great the bucks big 3 are together.
You hit the nail on the head. Once Giannis retires few people would have actually seen full games of him. Whenever you see people criticising his game, you immediately understand they dont watch the full games and they form.their opinion from highlights and some urban legends

Watch a ton of Blazers games. Dames vision can definitely be lack luster. His first thought is always score so he misses some open passes. People say Dame can’t play defense, but he can. His defense is actually really good when he decides to actually defend. He is really only playing good defense for 50% of the game.
A good portion of the blame does fall on Giannis, It's been an iffy Dame season fs (mostly due to personal issues) but Giannis really hasn't made an effort to fully commit to the pairing. It's well documented that Giannis doesn't like to set screens or do other things you'd expect from a traditional big, which worked when he was far and away the best offensive player on the team, but now he has someone as skilled as Dame by his side he needs to cede some of that offensive load and focus on uplifting Dame and making up for his lack of defense.
He really can’t stand the fact that there isn’t an American in the top 5 players in the league discussion and given the ages, there won’t be an American face of the league for at least a decade.

Dame needs to develop P/R decision making. However Bucks issue is more just during the playoffs they can’t switch things up. Lillard is the best answer however they have to gel what is going to happen. Coaching needs to improve and the P/R IQ is great if he’s scoring off it but if it’s passing out of it that’s why he don’t got high assists

Before I finish this video LOW this first take at 1:37 is kinda ignorant. The point of the offense being played through Dame maximizes his ability which is the reason he’s there. Dame has the ability to be your #1 guy in terms of scoring punch and facilitation and I believe with a well coached and deep roster like the bucks Dame on his own makes them a playoff team. When you add arguably the best PnR man in NBA history whose game is easier to adapt to an off the ball style of play now you have a championship contender. That isn’t to say Dame is a better scorer but that’s just how they would maximize the talent. Same thing with Dwade and Lebron. You have to give the ball to the ball dominant player if that means more efficient basketball for the team

Lopez doesn’t roll, he stands around. Dame takes a pick and looks for a shot, but he does so by continuing to dribble near where the pick so the defenders catch up or he gets doubled because he hasn’t gone anywhere. Dame is also a terrible passer out of the pick and roll. Really it’s the fact that he’s a shooter/scorer, but they need him to keep his head and eyes up because this team can play. That jump pass needs to go.
Preach!! First, and I said this before on another pod, the record with just dame vs just giannis is about personnel. Bobby is a better backup to giannis than pat b. (or cam payne before him) is to dame. Outside of that dumb take, the bucks offense is fine when it is whole, aka includes middleton. Our projected starting 5 is rated better offensively than the celtics and Denver, who everybody loves. The bucks had 3 problems early in the season 1. DEFENSE, 2. bench play, 3. Dame/giannis connection. Doc has addressed the defense, but it still needs these last few weeks to get completely into form. I don't expect it to do what it did to okc but it could be 12th through 8th depending on the match-up. The bench issue was the inconsistency of griffin's lineups. I actually liked that griffin played the young guys, but it clearly messed with Bobby and pat c. Now that their minutes are practically guaranteed both are playing with a freedom that they didn't earlier. Then there is everybody's favorite topic, dame and giannis. First of all they are playing much better together as of late but the issues were/are very simple while their talents say the pick and roll should be deadly, how they go about those talents is counter to each other. Giannis does not set screens fully. He touches the defender and goes fast. That works with middleton because of his height, but with dame, he needs giannis to slow down. Dame prefers a bounce pass, particularly in the short roll. However, because giannis is so shifty, he likes to look at the position of the defense and thus doesn't catch low passes as cleanly. So Dame needs to be able to throw some passes, not at his feet. Dame also always looks to shoot first, which isn't a bad thing, but because of the speed at which giannis cuts, he misses him looking for his shot first. The remedy to all of this is being deliberate in how you run the pick and roll. It would be super cool if they could just freestyle, but that takes time. So they need a signal that this time down, Dames' first look is giannis in his sweet spot and then look to score second or reset. And then another signal that this time down giannis needs to sit his ass on the pick and roll more slowly. Basketball isn't rocket science it's simple shit like that, that wasn't getting done. Similarly, on defense, most of the issues were just lazy transition defense and terrible rotations. Outside of those things, you can chalk most of it to the other guys get paid too.
