They’re only dangerous if you don’t know what you’re doing😂
@davidroux4900
@davidroux4900 Год назад
They're never used in safe or stable environment, that's what cause accidents, then there's the issue of misuse as well.

The handle should be up to begin with.

If you gotta hit with a hammer, its time to get a hi lift rebuild kit. The load bearing pin bends over time and the climbing pins and springs wear down. Swap those out and use lithium grease or WD40 to lubricate

Also the weight was on the wrong pin to set it down you have to lift the vehicle a little then hit the pin

I carry one (can jack off sliders, front steel winch bumper, or rear steel swing out bumper) but try to use it as a last resort. Definitely some situations where it is advantageous but I try to use my heavy duty bottle jack if at all possible. I love seeing pretty much stock rigs with them even though they have no where to actually place it to use it lol. At this point they've sorta become the standard "off-road look" accessory for a lot of people.

Used hi lift a long time. In alot of sketchy places doing sketchy things. Never felt scared about the equipment as I always maintenance it properly. Pmcs your equipment and know how to use it. Have a basic understanding of physics and know the limitations of this jack. If you dont respect it. You will find out why they are called widow makers. I would never use a "farm jack" hi-lift brand only. Also the safe jack attachment is great.
@cruiserpatch

completely agree. i maintain mine but the guy in the video obviously does not. sometimes it’s good to document cautionary tales 👍🏼

My Dad has one that they broke and got a replacement for while he was a firefighter. It was repairable but due to liability couldn't be put back into service with the FD so he took it to "scrap it" and fixed it to use for logging and other work. Still has it to this day 30+ years later

Out at the favorite mudhole years back and watched a fellow new to the sport break his jaw with a high lift. Was lowering and he didn't know to hold on tight...it snapped up caught him in the jaw and ripped him open to his chin. What a nasty mess.

Id argue most things are dangerous if you are dumb. That car for instance moves at highway speed and weighs 2 tons. Not knowing how to use the jack isn't a knock on the jack.

@@cruiserpatch the release on the pins occurs when the handle is down. You're not supposed to leave the handle down. You're not supposed to switch the mechanism when the handle is down. Should barely take a tap with the wooden handle not a solid whack with the hammer This near miss was stacked wth user errors. The only thing that saved him was fear of the tool, as if he knew he had no idea what he was doing
