The Trews perform their song “Highway of Heroes” at the ceremony commemorating the 80th anniversary of the D Day landing in Normandy, France on June, 6th 2024
This song touches me every time I hear it! As I drive the 401 from Trenton I will always play this song! I’m always impressed by the level of respect Colin, John Angus, and Jack have! The Trews will always have my heart!
This song has hit home to my family with members who have served in every conflict and war that has happened in which they were called upon to serve. Respect from Nova Scotia
Thank you from all Canadians! It is such a heartfelt song and my very favourite. My family, too, lost family in WW1 and WW2. I cry every time I hear it, remembering all the soldiers that fought for good over evil in this world. Bless you for the remembrance of all the heroes.
From the UK, wonderful song in the context of the day. Huge respect to the great Canadians . I foresee a day is beckoning when similar sacrifices will be required.
My father survived the beach and every other battle that followed. He sure would have loved this. He passed a little over a year ago at 97. They really were the greatest generation.
My grandfather who served in ww2 was apart of the 1st wave to storm Omaha Beach he served in the 1st infantry division 16th regiment 1st platoon US army from 1941 to 1968 hes 103 now me and him went to the 80th anniversary of d day and he loves this song he lost his leg to a grenade during the tet offensive during the Vietnam War he actually turned 23 during the Normandy landings i proud to be his grandson
About as fine an example of Canadiana as you can get, any way you look at this. Well done guys, and congratulations on the honour. I hope to see you in Bala or Ottawa, or both.
this band is from my home town, Hamilton ON. H ome of the R.H.L.I this batallion lost 100s of troops on Juno. Highway of heroes is the 401, from Trenton to Toronto. Awsome site to see hundreds of people on overpasses, as procesion drove by
The one on the right is my friends dad i know him personally we r close love this song always lisen to it rip and thank u to the people who served for us and the people who made this song just know there up there watching amen
Proud to be from the same hometown of most of the band members. If I'm not mistaken the inspiration for this song was when Capt. Nicola Goddard passed away serving a tour in Afghanistan, our first female casualty of that conflict
This is really cool. Near the end of the video it looks as though Justin Trudeau is explaining what the Highway of Heroes is to Prince William... so that's cool too.
My grandfather was a WWI aviator at a really young age; at 102 years old, he (for the first time) talked about the war as a trench soldier, getting shot by the soldiers behind him, leading a charge, and getting shot again. While in hospital, they learned he'd excelled and math and science in school, so they put him into a pilot program and he flew until the end of that war. He just said "I was good at - I wished I died saving my friends". Imagine what absolute steel ran through his veins at 18-22 years old.
