Of all the versions I've heard and what I play myself your articulation of the tune's emotions seems to fit. I been playing it like a lonesome dirge but it's more of a bittersweet resignation to one of many journeys down the trail of life. Sometimes things pan-out, others not, but there's no way of knowin' so you keep your head held high and ride on. I think this tune ought to be approached like those you look forward to playing after settlin' down from a tiresome workday, take a big ol' toke, then just vibe on it and see where things go. I'm gonna relearn it from your version here, thanks for sharing some inspiration.
I've loved this song since I heard Elizabeth Laprelle's version. She's amazing. Have you heard it? She got pipes that would make a bagpipe jealous. Yours is more soothing and so, so beautiful.
