“It is so thrilling to me to see you fall apart physically in front of my eyes”. John is SUCH the provocateur and it’s one of the best things about his sense of humor. I love that guy!
@@no_name4796 I guess so! Btw, on his provocateur angle, did you catch Last Week Tonight on Sun? If you haven't drop what you're doing and watch it -- he rips into Clarence Thomas VICIOUSLY and it's GREAT.
You can't fault John Oliver for his relentless hazing, he is a man with a laser-sharp eye for situational comedy and a deep professional understanding of Stephen's predicament, so this is probably exactly why they invited him to the show that night. The way Stephen just let John bulldozer over himself, and even played into it a little, shows that it's all coming from a place of empathy, love and respect for each other. Brothers in arms!
Ya, I was so confused because they just had him on a short while ago, for his annual appearance, maybe he does an extra later in the year of they're short on guests
Okay the switch up between him just reading the card and then doing his talk-show-host-ask was actually very cool to watch and John’s reaction was the best
Sometimes it's pretty easy when watching one of these shows when the host is just asking a question they are required to ask like when talking about an upcoming movie the guest is staring in.
Absolutely agree. You know Stephen is gonna have an easy night when John Oliver is booked. No need for any questions. Just roll the cameras, turn the red light on and let them go at it. Amd you know it's gonna be priceless.
@@Jennyfisch He was up later than he expected to be the night before since his show was live after the super bowl & the super bowl went into overtime.
John taking delight in Colbert's tiredness is hilarious! But also kudos to Colbert and the team for leaving that moment in. Such a playful peek behind the curtain!
Only a bestie could take such gleeful pleasure in their friend teetering on the brink of passing out from exhaustion. 😆 Give up, John. If his appendix couldn't do him in, neither can the sandman!
You aspire to a friendship that is actually two rivals pretending to have goodwill between them in order to maintain ratings and image? Lofty aspirations.
@@miguelchristopher7234kelliot whatever obviously doesn't have any friendships like what we witnessed and has zero empathy to feel others relationships, because if you can't feel the genuine love here, there's something wrong with you.
@@jenniferjohnson2712 Must be nice to have such a simple, naïve perspective. I've always wondered how people are so easily fooled by scammers, influencers pretending to have terminal illnesses, etc. but more and more I realize that many people just lack BS radar. Not that it really matters, but John Oliver obviously has genuine affection for John Stewart and Jimmy Kimmel. And Guillermo.
I just wanted to tell you that I dig your username. 😃 (You're probably like me and tired of always having to clarify the name by saying, "You know, it's like 'Jeanie in a bottle.'"
You can tell that John is his BFF at the moment John grabbed the guest card, held it up, and said, "Read it!" That face is the face that only a best friend can give.
@@davidmtwiggI second that. It really pulls back the curtain on the late-night show hosts. The way they routinely haze Fallon like a newbie in all 12 episodes is hilarious! 😊
Same! It was the first episode of his show I have ever seen! And to watching his show, I started watching Colbert as well, so moment like these where I can see both together are simply awesome!
John quoting Stephen's daughter has to have some backstory behind it. I just imagine the Olivers being invited at the Colberts' for dinner and John teaming up with the daughter, the wives just enjoying the show and Stephen just sinking into despair 😄
I do not know but it genuinely warms my heirt, that they are friends and they know each other kids and they are friends outside the cameras. So beautiful
OMG! That interview was brilliant. I know Stephen was tired, but man oh man; who better to bring in when Stephen is struggling with fatigue but one of his comedic best friends, John Oliver. It's been awhile since I have laughed that hard. 😂
@@jubilantyogurt , Stephen had to stay up until after overtime the night of the super bowl and do a live post game show the night before this John Oliver interview. That means that he did not get much sleep at all the previous night and he was basically running on fumes and caffeine. This led to a priceless comedic dance between him and John Oliver. It made this interview pure comedic gold.
I will never get tired of how genuinely delighted John gets over things that others wouldn't. Getting sued, people being too tired to speak, calling huge organizations drug cartels. He's just a joy.
Oh gods I have been this wiped out on the air and I salute Colbert's mastery at hiding the struggle... until, of course, John Oliver makes it absolutely hilarious. xD
It's weird...As an Aussie I went to New York in the late 90's (for a holiday), and one of the first things I saw was someone bashing the hood of a taxi and saying "Hey I'm walking here!" I remember thinking, Wow. I'm definitely in New York. Cracked me up! 😂
Running a live show this big while banking on Super Bowl jokes that haven't come yet is awesome 😂😂 Loving that some old friends are all coming together recently.
John Oliver's may use his "words as fists", but his greatest weapon is the sniggling giggle when he's delighted his friend Stephen is just as funny as he is and enjoys poking fun at John Oliver as much as John Oliver! Point of Fact. My "I'm a NY'er" moment after living here 3 years was being the guy the cabbie was hitting with his bumper in the crosswalk and yelling, "I'M WALKIN' HERE!!!" Additional POF: Neither drinking or throwing a Frappacino. Whaddya kiddin' me? Puhleaze!
This is one of the most ICONIC moments in the history of the show. This segment alone can give us at least 3 clips that are going to be looked back upon once the show is over. Absolutely hilarious.
I love how vulnerable Colbert is around Oliver. It was indeed quite noticeable when their usual banter was missing because these two have a very unique chaotic aura whenever they're together.
I can't express how happy I am seeing these two together after watching their careers grow for so many year. I'm thrilled to see them both doing so well, no matter how tired Stephen is while filming.
The chemistry between these two is nothing short of magical. Even when it goes off the rails it's nothing but wholesome (of course it's the kind of wholesome you can't show a five year old, but...) 😂😭🤣 😻👍
It's stuff like this that I enjoy most. Being the real, breaking past the script, seeing through the cracks. This sorta stuff is what I enjoy most, (like seth's corrections), very real and interactive, breaks out of the stereotypes of the show. To those who have been helping to push in this direction, Thank you.
That’s a testament to their years of friendship for John to know when Stephen is completely done in. Nice of John to provide the support, snark and all 😂
