Funky little analysis of StarKid's Nerdy Prudes Must Die and one specific motif. All songs and footage belong to Team StarKid. Nerdy Prudes Must Die: • Nerdy Prudes Must Die
Great video but I’d just like to say that the music director Matt Dahan deserves some credit as well as Jeff Blim, especially when it comes to a lot of the leitmotifs and instrumentals in the background and between scenes.
Nice video! You did a good job pointing out the motif appearances, and I share your enthusiasm for analyzing the pitch content of musicals. I would've liked to see your analysis go a bit farther, though. What is a reading you can make of the use of this motif? What may have been Jeff's thesis? For example, is the Dies Irae contour only completed when people don't die because this world is one in which the characters will continue to suffer and be in danger? Is the Dies Irae not completed when Richie and Ruth die because self-actualization is a fulfillment of life's purpose? The joy of music theory analysis really lies in the creation of a story that we can hear the notes telling on their own.
Not to "umm, actually" or anything, but the first note change "I'm" to "not" in "I'm not a loser" is a whole step, not a half step. C to Bb in Richie's instance, and G to F in Pete's.
