Growing up in Oklahoma and wrestling in High School in the late 80's. I placed 4th at State in 2A. I got a letter from you and Coach Monday. Although I never made it to college, my life took me into the Marine Corps. But that letter served as validation throughout my life that hard work and a passion for what you are doing are keys to happiness. Thank you for everything. You will remain a LEGEND! Enjoy the retirement, and wrestling can never repay what you have given to us all.
I can see the pain and hurt in his eyes thinking of Coleman. I’m not saying David was not a good hire because he was. They both would have been fabulous. I know there are many mixed feelings, but I enjoyed watching David wrestle and I know he will be a great coach as well.
David Taylor will bring in recruits that Coleman would not have been able to. For this reason alone, David Taylor was the right choice. Coach Smith knows that too.
People had their issues with him but this man really witnessed massive changes in USA wrestling over the course of 33 years and adapted with the sport as it changed. That is not a small accomplishment. No one really has that same experience as a coach at this point.
As a die hard Iowa fan I’m extremely jealous, as a wrestling fan I’m really happy for the sport and hopeful somebody can knock Penn state off their pedestal
It’s hard to say at this point if DT will be a better coach, I mean, John Snith was one of the best ever to do it just as well as he was an athlete. Best of luck to DT, I think he’s going to do well. 👍🏾
