Bellingham imo...A player who loves to perform on the big stage...plus his goals to add to Kane's will be crucial throughout the tournament...🏆🏴⚽️😍
Super Spieler !!!
Geoff will always be a special man as he helped me recover after a burst appendix operation when I was 9 years old… I was very poorly ( touch and go apparently ) my dad read that he was coming to my home town to open a sports shop. He wrote to the shop and Geoff dropped off a personally signed picture and left it at the hospital reception ( as he had to get back to London ). Imagine my reaction to receive this act of kindness….My mood changed, I recovered and finally got to thank Geoff personally at his theatre event when he did a sports evening at Cheltenham Town Hall. An incredible, humble man who is always so modest when talking about his career.
LOVED seeing this. Sir Geoff shows a wonderful humility, openness and kindness to share what he does .. proud to see people like this .. & proud of him. And Jeff does these so well ... thank you for sharing .. superb life lesson ...
Sir Geoff with Sir Jeff nice Jokes aside Sir Geoff your legacy will forever be legendary thanks for the England World Cup trophy Jules Rinet is still gleaming
No the worst decision in international football was when Lampard goal against Germany in the World Cup was disallowed as having not crossed the line, where in fact it was a good meter over.
Fully agree with Hursty that VAR is really really bad for the game of football! Hate it, hate it, hate it! Yes, some critical goals have been given thanks to VAR, but the stoppages disrupting the flow of the game are NOT worth it!
I think so yes. Tough call but how many goals are not disallowed and allowed using VAR that pundits scratch their heads over? Overall, far more problems caused by VAR than solved by it.
What a great memory World Cup final the goals the win and Hurst 3 great goals, felt bad for Greaves, but them are the breaks, great interview , thank you!!
At my first West Ham game aged about 8 in the late 60s at Upton Park he came over to retrieve the ball on the touch line near me,I held out my bag of crisps to offer him one and he took one and ate it. Chuffed I was.😄
I think the worst decision ever was Maradona's handball in 1986. But for a long time Germany seemed to 'own' FIFA, so pretending Lampard's goal didn't go in was not so surprising. Another appalling decision was allowing Henry's basketball antics against Ireland.
Great upload 👍 Considering that the other 10 players from 1966 have now passed, Sir Geoff looks incredibly well. Still talks well, great memory and clearly all the facilities are still there. Good for another 20yrs
I was in Germany watching this game. He was interviewed after the game and he said after Bobby Charlton went off he had nothing to do and so found more and more time to go forward. He was man marking Charlton.
Geoff Hurst played club football against Jack Charlton, Ron Yates, Brian Labone, etc., etc., etc. No wonder all centre halves seemed as good as each other. They were.
The score was 2-0 to England when Bobby Charlton was substituted in 1970. So he couldn't have been on the pitch when West Germany scored their first goal. I saw it live on TV.
@@johnharrington501 I saw it live too, watch the tv coverage. Charlton was only a few yards away from Beckenbauer when he shot and scored Germany’s first goal. It’s a fact that has been misreported by journalists all these years…….So I’m sorry you are wrong my friend 😎
Problem England had with Greaves is the bulk of his goals came in friendlies. Twenty-seven goals in friendlies, 13 goals in Home Championships and only four goals in European and World Cup qualifiers and finals (WC62-66; Euro64) and three of those were against Luxembourg in WC62 qualifiers.
Where VAR should really be most helpful is in offside decisions. It was always an impossible task for the linesman to simultaneously watch the player with the ball AND the back line and in the time taken to turn one's head an attacker can gain a couple of yards on a defender. It's amazing people got it right as often as they did, but it's crazy when TV viewers know far better what's going on on the pitch than the officials do. However, they've ruined the whole process by reducing it to microscopic differences - a finger tip or toe. If any decision is not clear almost immediately then play on. Another option would be to allow each club a certain number of appeals per half and per match (they'd have their own people watching the game, to know when something unfair occurs) and play goes on unless there's a formal appeal. A similar error is being made over handball, to the point where nobody knows anymore what is and what isn't handball. Since controlling the ball on one's chest needs a margin of error, the shoulder has to be okay and the upper arm, if it's close to the chest, should also be legit, while the elbow down is handball.
Gerry Coogan you are spot on great comment 2 goal hat trick are we the only 2 people in the British Isles who are aware that the ball NEVER EVER went over the line 😂😂😂😂
Brilliant insight, Geoff Hurst's hatrick in a world cup final will never be surpassed, married for 59 years, today's social media viewers need to take note, different class back then.
A hat trick in a world cup final at wembley for England and you get to lap Wembley at the end holding aloft footballs greatest prize.... does it get any better?...i bet even sir geoff cant believe that actually happened😂
I was so annoyed with Roger Hunt, the player nearest the bouncing ball, because instead of smashing it in (and eliminating any possible doubts) he turned around with his hands in the air to celebrate. Speaking of which, is Geoff going to talk about how he allowed the ball (from Mullery, I think) to go between him and the goalpost in Mexico - I now see he dodged that one. England were 2-0 up and dominating the game and it would've finished W. Germany off to have scored that third. Then we'd have faced Italy in the SF and Brazil in the final! It was a better team than in 1966 imho, but beating that Brazilian team may have been an impossible task.
'I had the worst view in the whole stadium' (of England's controversial 3rd goal in 1966) yet he states it was at least 7 inches over the line? Sir Geoff also thinks VAR is a 'joke' but bemoans the match officials decision not to allow Frank Lampard's goal v Germany in 2010?
Watched England win world cup 3-2 in 1966 when i was 12. The ball was never over the line: but bounced down onto the goal line. By todays goal line technology. But, that is the way it was back then. Proper football. Not these Nancy prima donna's going down when their shadows clash!!!
The ball was never over the line .. Refereeing was poor 1970 wc quarter final West Germany I watched it England should have had pens. imho england will not win while fake..flakegate is manager,,, he had 2 chances to win yet his inept skills tactically cost the team
@@LordFlashheart.11 semi WC Russia He never had the conviction to tighten the defence 15 minutes from time while Kane labored up front Deli too. Kane missed chance to make it 2 in the first half .and the midfield run ragged . Grealish keeps hold of the ball Mary Pickford is a clown He likes his pets...Oh for Terry Venables
@@leeturton9254 Absolutely. These nasty little keyboard warriors can't accept that Southgate has generally done a great job, and I wouldn't want to pick a replacement.
Legend is overused. But not in his case. A living legend. I was 8 years old in 66. What a day that was! Then 67, Celtic (my father was Scottish) and then 68, man utd and my hero George Best. I disagree with Hurst, england will not win a major trophy in my lifetime. Pampered prats, no hunger. 😢
IMHO England have not had a centre forward since Geoff, who made intelligent runs off the ball; was always available as a target and laid off quality balls, and on top of that scored goals consistently.
@@Popspicker Really need to advise you that as a West Ham fan since 1965, I only went for the entertainment, never for the points. Yes it is nice not to be relegated, but you know it will happen one day.
Absolutely nauseating, the cheats of 66, still desperately hanging on, thank goodness for the redemption of the lampard “goal”, and then there’s the yobs, West Ham yobs in 64, yobs in 66 and yobs in 2021, and the drunken English yobs in Spain every year, hiding under a Uk flag, then the cry babies to get rattin sent off, and Charltons toe-poke, they can only win at home cause they can’t travel. Favourites for 16 tournaments and two semis lol
You have got a problem. The ball was just over the line and it was known back then, but you have to see the high definition movie film from ground level looking straight along the line and not from an angle, which does exist but has rarely been shown in documentaries. You cannot make a decision based on the fuzzy black and white TV pictures that are always shown, as the image is just not clear enough. Rattin had only himself to blame because he couldn't stop arguing with the referee. I would agree that England were not the best team in 1966, however they deserved to win the final on the day, and any idea that tournament was fixed in their favour is frankly ludicrous and doesn’t bear scrutiny. The host nation at a World Cup has always had an advantage, not only playing in front of the home crowd but also the pressure it puts on referees. I doubt whether West Germany in 1974 and Argentina in 1978 would have won the World Cup had they not staged it. By the way there was no toe poke by Charlton.
When Sniffer Clarke was told he was making his debut ( vs the Cheks 70 - he scored the pen ) ĥe said I've been ready for 3 years - he was Imo and his England's Finest goal getter yet after scoring in his first 4 games he wasn't picked again until we slaughtered the Scots in their Centenary Game in Glasgow 0 - 5 in 73 Clarke got Two - my point he Should have replaced Mr Hurst at least after Mexico 70 W C .
Yes, very strange that Ramsey left him out for 2 years and he wasn't one of the boozers like Osgood, Worthington and Bowles etc. Martin Chivers was the natural replacement for Hurst.
