To be fair, for where Arsenal are heading, not winning anything must be considered a bad season. Arteta himself said we can't be satisfied with what we had this season. So I think no fans will feel angry about the season, but we must improve next season to win something.

The season is more successful for United but a club’s situation and squad performance always takes precedence, that’s why the Carabao cup looked so long ago and went to the back of United fans heads earlier in the season. That’ll be the same again next season if they’re in the same position. Arsenal are more setup for long term success but they have to get that one over the line first to break that hump of not winning yet with this team. From there they could have a really good period of winning a bunch of things.

Do I think United had a "better season than Arsenal" - no, personally I don't think so. But that's because they didn't qualify for CL football next season. However, last season I said United had the better season finishing 3rd and a trophy compared to Arsenal's 2nd and 0 trophies. Football ultimately is about trophies, and many will argue that trumps PL placement if it leads to winning nothing.

Zero trophies while your biggest rivals have taken all the available domestic silverware (the dinner plate doesn't count) is God awful. Arsenal, like United, aren't in a place to win the Champions League. So you're gonna go into a comp you can't win, get bounced in Feb/March, and then play the "bigger fish to fry" narrative when you finish 2nd/3rd.

If you're a mid table club looking to finish top 10 and win a cup then United had a great season. Man Utd fan here: Put it this way, we’ve been in 3 finals in 2 years, 2 back to back trophies. Been an AWFUL season, no clear style of play, no team cohesion, no consistent line up, Sancho drama, no funds to strengthen in Jan’24 window due to takeover. Yet we’ve somehow managed to win the second most prestigious trophy in England. We should be grateful, however we gotta stay humble. Arsenal are too consistent and didn’t fluke a 2nd place finish. You guys miles ahead of us, however yeah in terms of trophies we had a better season (2 seasons) however in terms of growth you guys are miles ahead.

In 2011, Birmingham City won the League Cup and were relegated the same season. Manchester United won the league and Community Shield (if you count that), City won the FA Cup. By this logic Birmingham City had a better season than Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham who came 4th, 2nd, 5th & 6th respectively.

The primary reason for every season is to win trophies, it is the only reason clubs compete during the season, a chance to walk away with at least one trophy, preferably one of the bigger ones. With that fact in mind, Manure season was more successful than Arsenal’s season. We huffed and puffed and still could not walk away with something to put in our trophy cabinet. Manure season performance was rubbish, but they managed to achieve something Arsenal could not, They Walk away with the FA cup. That said, there is a fundamental flaw in the argument who had a better season: if you are given the choice, (a) you have a small chance to win the EPL but mostly likely you will finish second, for teams like Man Utd or Arsenal, you should always go for it rather than accepting FA cup, (b) but between a definitive second in EPL vs a FA cup trophy, you always take the FA cup trophy, period.
