The most annoying thing about this debate is that they say Vista is relative to Mihawk but when they duelled Mihawk wasn't even paying attention to him but to Luffy. And when they clashed outside the beginning Vista's arms wiggled everytime Mihawk clashed swords with him.

I'm a Shanks fan, but also a fan of LOGIC , if Mihawk doesn't turn out to be the Strongest Swordsman then story becomes inconsistent, Zoro's dream becomes pointless. Knowing Oda, he will never clarify who's above the other so that he doesn't disappoint Hardcore Shanks fans(majority of the fandom). He will leave up to the readers to decide for themselves. And as a logical Shanks fan myself, Shanks will have way more badass moments than Mihawk have at the EOS but it doesn't make him stronger than Mihawk.
The story would still be consistent tho because that title wasn’t someone that he earned it was something given to him by the world government who he also ended up working for as a warlord so they had every incentive to give him the title. Zoro’s dream is to become the worlds strongest swordsman so wether or not mihawk ends up being the strongest has no affect on his goal because at the end of the day he’s gonna fight whoever that ends up being regardless. I don’t think mihawk is a fraud but it’s odd that he has such a prestigious title yet doesn’t have that same hunger as zoro nor has he shown any actual feats that would put him on that level. Is amazing how this can become such a debate when Oda has pretty much told us in every occasion possible through Manga, vivrecards and other sources that mihawk > shanks, or at the very least they're equals. In the Manga we've seen several examples of characters using the word "skil" as a synonym of power or strength, the same way people sometimes say "he is more powerful than him" or "he is stronger than him", having the same meaning. Katakuri told luffy his skills were better than his, who's who said in kaido's crew you climb ranks with skill, etc.... If you're a swordman, everything you have IS a sword skill, coo, coc, coa, physical strenght, stamina, durability, endurance, dfs, etc.. because everything contribute in you becoming a stronger swordsman. That's at least the way I vew it.

Omg, another episode of mental gymnastics by the shanks and Sanji fans to downplay mihawk and Zoro. I mean Oda his Mihawks bounty for over a thousand chapters. As soon as he revealed it the shanks stans were SHOOK at what it possibly meant. Bottom line, Mihawk's bounty is based on strength alone while shanks is based on strength, crew, territory and name recognition. The Marines put a bounty on this dude and Mihawk was like, "Ight, Bet. Shanks was Mihawk's most recent competent challenger for World's Strongest Swordsman. They have daily duels. No victor is determined. Fast forward to Luffy and Sea King incident... Shanks loses an arm and Mihawk loses his interest in Shanks. For Mihawk fighting a one armed swordsman is a lose lose for him. 1) He's already fought Shanks while Shanks had 2 arms. A challenger with one arm fighting a champion with 2 is disrespectful towards champion. Mihawk wants competition, not a handicap. 2) Fighting a one armed swordsman is a lose lose for Mihawk. That will make Zoro and Mihawk's interactions pointless, that will make Mihawk pointless, and lastly, that will ruin the author's 25+ years of narrative buildup for Zoro's dream to surpass Mihawk and become the new World's Strongest Swordsman. The reason mihawk doesn't want to fight shanks is because he has nothing to gain, if he beats shanks he beat a dude with one arm and if he loses he got beat by a guy with one arm. Imagine celebrating beating a one armed sports player, the fact that they have one arm doesn't make them any less of a player like they could be better than most but morraly it wont feel like a true win.
Okay so this is how I see it. For Mihawk's case: he stated that he's no longer interested in fighting Shanks after he lost am arm. And he obv has the world's strongest swordsman title. For Shanks's case: their last duel was extremely long ago and Shanks doesn't really make huge plays in the story at all so people might just think Mihawk is strongest because Shanks hasn't done anything huge for someone so strong. Shanks rn might have haki at an extremely high level. That's how I view it tho, Mihawk has yoru which he turned into black blade so he might have stronger armament but we have no clue as to how black blade is forged so there's that.
well its confirmed that haki is a part of having a black blade, out of all the theories 1 make complete sense, mihawk didnt have a confirmed black blade before he had the wss title, ryuma being the only other guy having this was also the strongest swordsman of all time even stronger than mihawk, shisui is confirmed to be forged by ryuma, zoro basically just reactivated the black blade after centuries of ryuma's death, and mihawk is the current strongest swordsman, shanks fans would be absolutely flabbergasted if this turns out to be true lol, they wont have more arguments since that just means mihawk actually is the strongest in all ways round haki, strength, skill etc

It could be fist style(garp) or devil fruit style,(luffy g4) or Swordstyle(shanks). Even if it's based on skill it doesn't matter because if you are more skilled than someone in sword fighting. That means you can beat them in a duel. Just look at Hema or kenjutsu, if you have practiced for 20 years you can beat someone who has just practiced 1 year because you know all the techniques (it's not about swinging the fastest or hardest) and Mihawk is in the top echelon of fighters anyhow so there is not like there is a world of difference in overall strength in the fighters anyhow. Shank's stans be like, he scared off an admiral with a monstrous haki burst. He definitively didn't retreat because he was about to be sandwiched between two emperors and their crews. It was only the haki paralizing mental attack. It had nothing to do with him being in enemy territory alone vs. 2 emperors, their crews and a metric fuck ton of samurai. Who's side do you think law and kid would take? When Mihawk and Shanks were having their fights it was before Shanks lost his arm when he lost his arm he had 1 billion berries bounty. They were equals at that time. Now Shanks lost his arm and Mihawk got his worlds strongest swordsman title. When Shanks was 1 billion. Nowa days Shanks has 4 billion berries is a equal to Whitebeard seen due to them splitting the sky. When Mihawk threw an attack at Whitebeard he wants to know the gap between Himself and Whitebeard but it gets blocked by a 3rd Commander. Whitebeard didint even try to block it because it is that uninteresting. If u think when Mihawk try’s to sense the gap between him and Whitebeard he thinks he is stronger then him go for that but to me it seems like there is a gap not even a particularly big one and the same gap is between Shanks and Mihawk. Haki is apart of swordsmanship. Mihawk himself showed this while training Zoro. If it was up to "the most skilled", the title would go to fucking Cabaji for being a swordsman on a unicycle.
