Ram Guha Sir has always been very forthright,bold and very analytical. He has painted a grim picture upon Modi’s return for the third term. Mainstream media is completely co-opted, dissenters and critics hounded and jailed, it is heartening to see Karan doing a great job by anchoring such incredible interviews. He is really bold, independent and defiant.
And it's so detailed points of suffering that Mr Guha is spilling.. He is indeed forthright and extremely analytical in his part.. His words make me fear the future 🙃

It is very unfortunate that the BJP rule has taken on the path of authoritarianism. Most of the institutions have lost their independence. India is a secular country and it should remain so irrespective of which party governs it.

As a muslim Indian I have full perception of the phenomena being referred to by Ram Guha, albeit with great distress. At the same time, I tend to hope for a better future after listening to sizeable number of hindus like him and Karan et al.

The social fabric of our country is at the weakest and is finding it very hard not to disintregrate in the powerful BJP washing machine. Very soon the people of this country will have to come together like pre independence and weave the social fabric once again. Only hope we the older generation are still there to see it happen.
Emergency was for 2 years and majority of the systematic amendments done during emergency were rolled back quickly by the next govt. Today India has been in an undeclared emergency for 10 years and another term would result into so much degradation of systems that it would take decades to rollback. No successive govt will be able to remove authoritative powers within a single term.

In addition to census, the voter turnout also needs to be considered when talking about delimitation. For eg, in the recent elections, turnout in Bihar was just 48%. What is the point of giving 30 more seats to Bihar if people don't even vote?

Second, and this is not an apology for Indira Gandhi, the circumstances brought forth her autocratic tendencies (I mean the Allahabad High Court verdict against her). Though debatable, perhaps Indira Gandhi would not have turned a dictator had she continued to be chosen by the public election after election. Modi, contrarily, is intrinsically dictatorial and autocratic. There was no ultra-rightist or majoritarianism ideology in her autocracy. In fact, there were no shackles of ideology with her. Modi's autocratic proclivities are innate, brazen and laced with the ultra rightist ideology.
