The way that his parents were not at all concerned that their son was wearing a dog collar Edit: Specifically that he was wearing the collar that belonged to his dog
I really love the use of the dog to show the difficulties of coming out, and how as he continued to try harder and harder to hide his true self, he hurt his relationship (as a dog) with his mother.
@@pigen9013 maybe they meant a sort of de-humanisation, but I find this very far-fetched as well. Like you said, it's a storytelling device. It makes the story interesting bc it gives it an unexpected and unusual turn (a human behaving like a dog), it brings physical comedy, it produces the very common storytelling concept of "challenge - obstacle - solution" (receiving a challenge or task, stumbling over obstacles and eventually solving the challenge or task) for the main character (most common in adventure stories where the path to solution is the actual part of interest, e.g. Hobbit) and it helps to deliver a message. By being a dog, the main character can learn that his mother already knows his sexuality. The comparison to SOUL works in one way really well because the storytelling concept is basically the same as in the second half of the movie where Joe's soul lands in his cat's body. But apart from it being only one of many aspects of SOUL, that movie has absolutely nothing to do with sexuality. There's not even an "other" in the movie. Except if hetero automatically means not listening to jazz and not being a musician, which is obviously bs. So there's no "other" in SOUL, especially not for a hetero audience. There's reqally no connection between this concept of storytelling and an audience of a certain sexuality. It's just storytelling, that's it.
What do you mean? Why does this video have so many dislikes, is there something I'm missing? I really enjoyed it but if there is something I'm missing would love to know.
Everything a corporation does is ultimately a calculated decision to elevate the bottom line. They'd allow this regardless of any internal ideology simply because supporting pride month is an incredibly safe position to take these days while still providing plenty of free community goodwill that can be turned into profit.
@@Demarcus_Berkley They tried to say that there's a month for US veterans already, it's in may, and it's called the "Military appreciation month". So your point doesn't make sense.

This short is awesome! The ending was really cool too! Spoilers: I was not expecting the cosmic cat, and dog to help out, I just thought it was a magic collar!
I just saw this film today, and I gotta say, it was... interesting. Sure, I was expecting Greg to struggle coming out to his parents... and then he and his dog switched bodies. Needless to say, I was weirded out, especially in the beginning when a magical cat and dog appeared from a rainbow just to mess with him. Edit: I'm just now noticing that at the beginning, it says "Based on a true story". If Greg actually switched bodies with his dog in real life, I'd be concerned.
Dude, don't take things so literally lol. It's a cartoon, they put in a touch of magic. And just because something is based on a true story doesn't mean everything in it literally happened. The short is probably based on how the creator came out but it doesn't mean he was in a dogs body lol.
I'm kinda going through the same exact scenario. I'm about to move to another state, far away from my dad, and I have yet to tell him I'm pansexual. I'm nervous, but I want him to know before I go. I don't think he would be mad or upset, maybe more confused than anything. I wonder how he feels about my move. I love him, and he deserves to know. It's so nerveracking though, but I'm gonna do it soon. This short really resonated with me and I think seeing this film finally was a sign I need to say something. Thank you to the amazing team behind this, wish me luck.
It's really not that big of a deal if he doesn't know yet. It's just about who you date lol. I have yet to tell mine and I moved away a few years ago. I of course would tell him about it if I was dating someone, though. What really matters to parents is that you're happy, healthy and capable.
As a Dad, I would want to know that you are competent to live and support your own life. More importantly, I’d want you to be happy. But, I can only speak from my perspective. I wish you well.
This is a great short but we still haven’t seen two guys kiss in a Disney movie…. Disney is slapping itself on the back for having one short film about an LGBTQ character on its entire platform lol
I think if we encourage them by supporting this one, giving this views and likes and support then ofc they will take bigger steps and produce more diverse films. I'm not defending them having not done this sooner but if people are not gonna watch this short then Disney wouldn't produce a lgbt film because it won't sell
My father refused to watch this one night because he has "no interest in watching a man come out as a homosexual". Well, I just watched it the next morning when he wasn't home.
This was very beautiful. And very accurate. The more I tried to hide my sexuality, the more people got hurt. My partner, my friends and even my family because I was pushing everyone away. Now even though a lot of people weren’t happy when I came out, it felt like a huge boulder fell from my shoulders and I could finally learn how to be myself.
Im sorry to say that when I played it for my family, when Greg and Manuel Kissed, my dad let out a giant ugh, and told me that this was too inappropriate for my 12 year old sisters. I contested this, and my mom told me to give up the remote to my dad, and wrapped it up with a nice, "I just dont like it when they rub it in my face." Yeah, Living here kinda sucks.
i sort of wish disney and pixar had movies or even just shorts that were about serious stuff like this but didnt always have a happy ending. When my bf came out, he was effectively ignored. When I came out, i was screamed at and THEN ignored. There are others that come out where its much worse than that.. things this serious dont always have a pretty ending. coming out doesnt always lead to a happier, healthier relationship with those around you. its nice that theyre trying to be more inclusive with shorts like this and movies like encanto and turning red, but i wish they were more inclusive in that they had one story that didnt end in hugs and smiles.
I know when I came out as bi my mom denied it and told me I don’t need to be so politically incorrect. I just didn’t realize it until late in my life. And I could never come out to my dad
Thank you so much for this😭 I was in tears by the end. Seeing them have a happy ending gives me so much hope! This short made this pride month so much more hopeful ❤️ Happy pride everyone! 🏳️🌈
First you're a nick character not a disney character And Second I think it's a great job that Disney is appreciating Pride Month, can't say the same thing about what Alex Herch said. But I do think Out was Good, not Great, just plain Good.
3:09That is where Squeaky Penguin from Toy Store went. I glad his squeaking works. Also 6:09 would be a great meme picture. LOL at that look. Love this animation. Love this video.
This teaches children to live in society, because in society there are different people, and that's okay. Be happy that's what really matters Never forget
daw its cute ^-^ and true. Sometimes, the parent or parents already know the truth. They just either wait for their kids to tell them on their own. ^-^
I wish my family is acceptable like that in the shorts. In 4 years im gonna migrate far away as possible from them and i don't know if it's the right thing..
Oh, what happed between you and your parents? If you it’s a story you are not comfortable talking about than you don’t have to say. But if you are okay with it I am curious.
Thank you very much for uploading this! Showed it to my mom. She nearly cried. Really wish Disney wasn't as concern about pleasing everyone, or making it so toothless it can sell internationally, that heartfelt stories like this could begin to shine.
I Absolutely LOVE this film!! And SO Happy it was made🥹 It’s been more over a year and so, and even if I watch on repeat, I can’t never stop smiling, crying, nor laughing like a maniac when I watch this! 🤣🤣 not to mention just how relatable, anxious, odd and comedic of a ride the entire thing is !✨❤️🔥✨❤️🔥✨
This is so wholesome!! And the animation is AMAZING. The creativity in this!! I hope to see more stories like this on the big screen one day into a full movie!
@the Atom _51 Please shut up if you don't agree with it then why'd you click on the video you could've simply pressed the three dots next to the video and clicked not interested 🙄
@@mr.jozech unnecessarily? This is Pixar’s way of conveying that people who have different genders matter, it’s not that it’s unnecessary, it’s showing that people care about that community.
Im not sure if im looking into it too hard but i really like the idea that greg is bi. The pink and purple coloration is all over the short and is prominent in the cat and dogs design. It could also be the fact that im bi and when this came out on plus for the first time, it helped me come out as bi.
This is probably my favorite animated short ever. I already loved it when I first watched it last year but it means way more to me now since I came out to my parents a few weeks ago.
I cried watching the end, I wish I could come out to my mother, but I'm so afraid. My English can be confusing as I am using the translator, I am Brazilian

Hermoso, me recordó a mi mamá, y me dijo exactamente lo que ella le dijo, que quería que encontrará a alguien y que no importará quien fuera, solo que me hiciera feliz, te extraño mamá, te mando un beso hasta el cielo.
