“Philippine Colonial Photography in the Cordilleras” by Jonathan Best showcases important photographs that record the ways of life of the inhabitants of the Cordilleran mountain ranges. Loaned from private collections, the photos are from the lenses of late 19th century amateur and professional photographers.
Published by the Vibal Foundation under the Fifty Shades of Philippine Art imprint, this book also contains rare illustrations, engravings, maps, and writings from the accounts of the foreign expeditions from visiting anthropologists and ethnographers. More than just a valuable source of historical reference, this is also a reminder of what was lost during the depredation that occurred because of colonialism, wars, and drastic cultural changes.
