Those first 30 seconds. Can you imagine what is going through his head? It's as if time stops for his reflection, and the catharsis struck upon the first chord is chilling. What a timeless scene.
It's an incredible bit of footage. I come back to it again and again. I first saw it a few years ago. Something else I love about it is how much of the mechanical noise of the Rhodes is on the recording. It's an essential part of the overall effect.
Of all the music from Herbie I have listened to, and that's nearly all of his works, this is my favorite. The poise, the concentration, the depth, the richness, the journey of this piece CLEARLY in the style of Miles - what an absolutely fascinating, sincere, and affectionate tribute to his late friend and mentor.
I can't believe, that this is my favourite musician , who wrote "watermelon man","chameleon", cantaloupe island 🏝️","hang up your hang ups "and other melodies
Love the simplistic filming of Herbie on a plain white background. The full wide shot near the beginning would make an awesome large print. Only color being the blue shirt for Miles, so cool!
