Another thing people should consider is the soil type they wanna dig. I had one folding shovel, but as the soil in the coastal area I live in is muddy sand, after some time the moving parts became so full of grit (even after washing it thoroughly and lubricating after each use) that it was not possible to fold/unfold it anymore. Now I think a simpler design (i.e., with less or no moving parts) are better for my purposes.
