Hollywood is automatically geared towards "normalizing" dysfunctional or toxic choices because movies wouldn't be as interesting without them. I don't think watching the Notebook makes me interested in cheating, I just enjoy the drama.

Movies would be and are perfectly fine without "dysfunctional or toxic choices". You're the weird one here for not being able to find a movie interesting without the characters making "dysfunctional or toxic choices."

@@WhatEver-bx2hu there's a Korean show called strong girl Bong soon, it's about a girl with great strength and usually Korean shows are very toxic but in this show the guy respected her, wanted her to be stronger, knew she liked someone else but she wasn't in a relationship so he told her how he felt and said he'd wait and treated her the same, she then realised she wants to be with him too, no cheating, no overbearing behaviour or jealousy, just adorable and healthy and even the other male lead was great, also I heard the movie Amelie is good with no toxicity

The notebook is a perfect example of a guy being a sociopathic level of manipulating and calling it romance. Yea Hollywood is definitely is and always has been working to normalize dysfunctional relationships, whether that’s to our own bodies, our lovers, our family or community.

That is why I hated the Notebook. And people didn't understand why. It's so romantic and cute and I at 14 were like, uhm no? But then again my parents brought me up to believe that cheating is never the answer. You leave or you stay, you're in or you're out, it's okay if it doesn't work out, it's always okay to leave if the relationship doesn't make sense BUT you never ever use cheating as a gateaway.

They aren't promoting cheating. They are being real. They show how true love will never die and just because someone is a good person it doesnt mean thats enough of a reason to marry someone. Life isnt a fairy tell. Its raw, messy and real. People re cheering because they are in miserable marriages where they settled. You have to think like an adult, have depth and acknowledge we are all human and make mistakes.

Yeah I've noticed this too and in my last relationship where my ex had a cheating problem I wouldn't watch romance movies with them. Worried it'll put ideas in their head. I had no self respect back then. When they end up cheating again and wanting to end the relationship but still live together and share the bed together I said no and point to the door asking them to move out. I was just sick of being treated that way. I've been lonely since but I'm at peace. I can get a good night's sleep now

In my opinion it's not cheating as long as immediately after, the characters break it off with their partners. Cheating is about dishonesty, not about changing feelings. I agree it would be better for them to hold off on kissing until after they break up, but as long as they don't continue living a lie for weeks or months, I don't see that much of a problem. Obviously if people are married it's different, but if they're just dating or even engaged they still have time to change their mind
@cornelia4838
@cornelia4838 Месяц назад
It is cheating and it is dishonest because if they cheat they don't really love their partner so they just dragged them along until they found someone else. Someone honest would say to their partner i am sorry i like or love someone else break up with them and then go to the other one

Maybe it has something to do with the idea that if you were ever cheated on, you must let that person you love go. Because they love the other person that they cheated with with their hearts. Therefore, if you love them and want them to be happy with the person they love, you'll let them go. This is what these movies are teaching us.

It give marriage the image of a boring act sentence and not a life goal . It cheers for running after desire and not caring about hurting others. In other stories they are the villains.

If they made him to be a “the waitress” type of partner it’ll be a cop out but at least it’ll make her a sympathetic character. They could’ve had a scene where she broke up with him and told him she can’t stop thinking about her ex and it won’t be fair to him, the kiss in th rain can still happen after she decides to be forever alone or whatever.

I don't necessarily think normalizing cheating is the best way to describe this phenomenon. Other people in the narrative, particularly any partners that the main character of Interest start with are, punished for cheating. theres also a whole host of other terrible behavior that movies justify such as stalking, continually harassing them after they said no, being needlessly cruel to somebody for sole crime of liking the person you do, or invading someone's privacy. Normalizing treating any actions you take as morally righteous as long as it's in the pursuit of quote unquote true love is when I'd go with

If you are modelling your dating life after Hollywood movies... I don't think that's the movies fault. Also for every movie with cheating involved there's like 4 more with nothing of the sort (and arguably another 4 with equally worrisome dynamics that don't involve cheating). There are movies that try to teach the audience morals and there are others just trying to keep you entertained. If you don't like it is just not your type of movie. I hate when character's bad actions aren't acknowledged, but some people can just go with the flow in the story and not really question the logic or message behind it

They are rom coms. They need the drama of conflict, and the true love trumps everything aspects lol if nothing keeps them apart, they wouldn't have much of a movie lol they would just get together and the credits would roll. Rom coms always have a bf/gf, husband/wife, or an over baring ex. Its the drama they need. The scandal am i right? Haha

No. You can make drama without cheating. Like you mentioned, use an ex, a death, kidnap one of them, send him away for war, make family members stand in their way. Making us think cheating is needed as an obstacle, is kind of the point of this video 😂❤😉✨

Not every movie about people falling in love has cheating in it.. I'm not saying it's the only way. However, It just makes for a good movie. Because of the drama. Viewer wanna see how it turns out. It's about the ratings loll There are definitely funny parts in the notebook, btw., and i definitely don't think they are normalizing it. Cheating has been something that has been happening well before our time. All I can say is if yall don't wanna watch it, don't.. but don't blame people cheating on these movies "making it okay" lmao that's just stupid.
