THIS VIDEO IS A RECONSTRUCTION OF THE FOLLOWING SITUATION IN FLIGHT:
04-JUN-2024. A JetBlue Airways Airbus A320 (A320), registration N586JB, performing flight JBU1844 / B61844 from Bridgetown Grantley Adams International Airport (Barbados) to Boston Logan International Airport, MA (USA) shortly after takeoff requested return back to the airport of departure and reported a lot of faults going on with the airplane. The pilots were unable to tell the exact nature of the emergency. Later the flight crew reported that one engine was showing shut down and fail but it seemed to be working. Subsequently the airplane landed safely on runway 9 at Bridgetown Grantley Adams International Airport. This airplane (N586JB) returned to the service on 7-JUN-2024 (in 3 days after return).

THE VALUE OF THIS VIDEO:
THE MAIN VALUE IS EDUCATION. This reconstruction will be useful for actual or future air traffic controllers and pilots, people who plan to connect life with aviation, who like aviation. With help of this video reconstruction you’ll learn how to use radiotelephony rules, Aviation English language and general English language (for people whose native language is not English) in situation in flight, which was shown. THE MAIN REASON I DO THIS IS TO HELP PEOPLE TO UNDERSTAND EVERY EMERGENCY SITUATION, EVERY WORD AND EVERY MOVE OF AIRCRAFT.
SOURCES OF MATERIAL, LICENSES AND PERMISSIONS:
Source of communications - www.liveatc.net/ (I have a permission (Letter) for commercial use of radio communications from LiveATC.net).
Map, aerial pictures (License (ODbL) ©OpenStreetMap -www.openstreet...) Permission for commercial use, royalty-free use.
Radar screen (In new versions of videos) - Made by author.
Text version of communication - Made by Author.
Video editing - Made by author.
HOW I DO VIDEOS:
1) I monitor media, airspace, looking for any non-standard, emergency and interesting situation.
2) I find communications of ATC unit for the period of time I need.
3) I take only phrases between air traffic controller and selected flight.
4) I find a flight path of selected aircraft.
5) I make an animation (early couple of videos don’t have animation) of flight path and aircraft, where the aircraft goes on his route.
6) When I edit video I put phrases of communications to specific points in video (in tandem with animation).
7) Together with my comments (voice and text) I edit and make a reconstruction of emergency, non-standard and interesting situation in flight.

The pilots used non-standard phraseology in a foreign country and she cleared them into the right traffic pattern and cleared to land. Pilots screwed it up.

Actually pilot requested vectors for the approach, Adams TWR does not provide Approach service or vectors, hence the transfer to the terminal unit.

@@xa2829 I think that's fair. But clearly the controllers could do with some additional training on handling emergency aircraft. And I wouldn't be surprised if they did after the fact.

No she wasn't. The pilots did not use standard phraseology. Did not declare a mayday. She gave them clearance for a right traffic pattern and landing which is the quickest way to land the airplane unless you perform an 80 260 to the opposite direction runway.

I think the confusion is where the controller on her side simply cleared the aircraft to do whatever they wanted. But the pilots, being so overwhelmed, actually needed the controller to provide a more "normal" environment, giving them directions and altitude and keeping it as normal as possible
@uy_spotter
@uy_spotter 3 месяца назад
@@noam9997 the controller expected them to return on a visual traffic pattern, but of course it was not possible due to the nature of the situation. She just wanted to ease the task on the pilots, not knowing what was really going on up there.

That Tower controller had as many faults as the aircraft. The pilot virtually handed himself off to talk to someone that could actually listen and help him, problem was he was not a lot better so the pilot had to virtually hand himself back to the Tower controller.

Well the regular controller had to run out suddenly to the loo, so the cafeteria lady stepped up to cover. Just kidding. Yes, it was a bit rough to listen to, but certainly not the worst that has ever been recorded. Give her a little bit of credit, but I was disappointed that the pilots were asking for some answers and getting nothing in return. Hard to listen to an aircraft in emergency, not really getting answers back when they ask them.

ATC did FINE. Pilots didn’t. Typical lousy phraseology of Americans. They talk as if they are requesting services at Walmart. Not to mention their read back, it was atrocious. Not even they declared the emergency in a proper way following ICAO standards. No wonder ATC was confused at the beginning. 🤷‍♂️
