The Triangle Shirtwaist Fire is a well documented tragedy from the early 20th century. Conditions in the factory were known to be unsafe and despite a constant stream of complaints in regard to that fact, nothing substantial was done to improve the working conditions for the women working in the factory. As a result, 146 died when fire broke out on March 25, 1911.
This topic has been chronicled by very talented people over and over but one perspective I have found most impactful to me was a letter published two days after the fire by William Shepherd, a man who witnessed the incident from the ground. My goal with this episode is simple: help people to understand what it was like that day by sharing his words with you. I didn’t write them and I have no claim to them. Understanding tragedy is a part of history. I hope Shepherd's letter has the same impact on you it had on me.

I have still encountered exits doors locked or chained in the past few years. The Louvre in Paris is a disaster waiting to happen.

I used to work in a Resturant that would lock the back exit to keep the kitchen staff from sneaking out back for smoke breaks. You needed a key undo the deadbolt. Always felt that was a disaster waiting to happen.

Certainly shocking and impactful, it was like William became mesmerized by the terrible event, and had to see out the whole event to the end, rather than turning away early on and leaving the scene.

Yes, the Triangle Shirtwaist Fire was horrible and impacted future fire codes and workplace safety. Every Firefighter studies this disaster in Rookie School. I think, however, one could argue that the Winecoff hotel fire, which killed 119 hotel guests, on December 7, 1946, is the pivotal event that brought about THE major change in fire safety codes, forever.

Insane to think this happened in such a short time frame. More than a hundred years ago, in a place thousands of miles from me. In just 7 minutes, less than the duration of this video, those people went from their daily worries like paying bills and caring for their loved ones, to deciding weather or not to take their lives. I will remember this for the rest of my life, probably thinking back on it every once in a while. And to think that today, more than a hundred years later people still work similar jobs, dying similar preventable deaths. It really makes me incredibly sad, I feel no hope for our race.

Like the fire at the station club in Rhode island. Within just a few minutes the place was engulfed and 100 people were dead.

Why didn’t they try climbing down? Climb out hang and drop and try and catch yourself on the window a story down and maybe you survive

62 people jumped or attempted to get down and died. Did you watch the video? People aren't Spider-Man.

Only Communism kills! Right guys?! *Ignore all these Capitalism related deaths, gotta make a buck after all 😅*

🤦‍♂ Nobody ever said that "Only Communism kills... Right guys?!" - except a Communist. It's called a strawman 'arguement' i.e a weak, partisan one. But at least you've admitted that Communism has killed millions and millions of people.🤦‍♂

Communism kills millions not hundreds

Coincidentally the same group of people were largely responsible for communism and for this particular tragedy. And international "bankers" are behind the evils of capitalism and communism alike.

The same people are often behind the evils of both. That is the case here.

@Sleepyjudei Incorrect brother. You fundamentally don't understand these methods of control. That would be like saying that the... idk Athiests are controlled by the same people that control Catholics. It's diametrically opposed, they seek completely different things in different ways.
