By: Alistair Begg || Preached September 13, 2020 - (1 Samuel 31) King Saul, who began his reign with great promise and potential, was brutally and disgracefully defeated by the Philistines. His tragic story is a warning to all of us, cautions Alistair Begg. The Bible teaches that death is not the end of existence; therefore, placing hope in human power is folly. Confronted by political chaos, social disintegration, and our own mortality, we are reminded that our hope and refuge is Jesus, the only King who triumphed over death and hell.

This morning , Thurs.9/24/20, I am in Long Beach,Ca. preparing to begin my day. The world around me is upside down. And now I go to care for my family, the students under my care, my colleagues, and my community. Between the solid preaching of my own good pastor and Pastor Beggs, I am able to meet the challenges. Thank you for your ministry, for always pointing us to King Jesus. On Christ the solid rock I.stand , all other ground is sinking sand.

I still recall my earliest days in school here in Scotland UK, 1955 and my teacher told us the story of Samuel as a boy, that and other Bible story’s which we were taught never left me, and it is to the same God, that today, I give thanks for my salvation, for my new birth in Christ Jesus.

That made me sad, the brief pan across the empty auditorium. Thank you for continuing to preach as unto the congregation God placed in your care. You are reaching even more, I hope. It makes me very thankful for being able to at least meet, with required precautions. God is strengthening his children.

great preaching-- quite enjoyed the bit about the dead body and the reason of it being disturbing due to the vacancy of the soul/spirit--- and as always, lovin' the title

Thank you for your wisdom and insight, pastor Alistair. The cats and I started listening to you several years ago when my husband went on a mission trip to the other side of the planet. We listened to you all night - every night so the cats wouldn't be scared alone in the house at night :). Since then I have filled my bible and my prayer journal with your comments. Glad I found your channel!

Amen! Indeed, The Lord Jesus is our hope and consolation! What a sad passage to learn, so timely in the face of this distressing year, and so reassuring when seen thru the lenses of Jesus, our eternal King.

When we see a soul leave a body we know they are no longer there. The soul in created eternal. We shall be with Jesus eternally or if He is not your Lord and Savior sadly you will never be with God again eternally. Choose life eternal in Christ now and live with Him forever. He is calling us now. Heed the call, you will never regret His way or His truth, His forgiveness. He is the Great I Am who reigns forever. Praise you Lord of all.

Who is the person you quoted at the end re every mockery of God and his people...is the Philistine gospel? Thought you said John Willows, but can’t find him. Love this series, husband and I watch first thing in the morning.
