I like the idea of asking questions like the CSS database one. If they don't give a "wtf?" face, then take everything they've said with a large dose of skepticism.
Yeah, given the questions were all basically yes questions I think that kind of 'trick' question is needed here or you could just pass the interview by saying yes to everything.... Seems like a poorly thought out screening interview rather than a proper technical interview.
It sounds crazy for people who actually know how it works. But now that I think about it questions like that are great for interviews. Helps you filter out people who know nothing.
@@swearimnotarobot3746 CSS is for layouts like font, spacing etc. AFAIK, it cant be used to store information like you would need to do with a database.
@@uberspaz7484 CSS is a language entirely devoted to formatting on websites. Using it to hold a database would be way out of it's use case if even possible.
This is why companies worth their salt have technical interviews with technical staff, after an hr screening interview to make sure you didn't lie on your resume
Nah, my current company had a phone screening followed by one panel interview with 4 people, my manager, his manager, and two other senior people from other offices. I got an offer less than an hour after the interview was done. You don't need to waste everyone's time if you do it right, but it could really depend on the industry.
I am in hospital IT. We have the process down to 2 interviews as our team's interview is the whole team, manager, supervisor, and devs. But then the background processes, e-verify, and certification confirmation process start. That takes over a full week at best usually longer. We have never offered a candidate a job the same week of their interview, and by that I mean 7 constitutive 24 hour periods starting the clock at the end of the interview. It is sadness.
The contradictory descriptions are so real. In every job description I've seen, they want a paradoxical employee who's smh innovative AND a paper pusher
Remember, the phone screening/recruiter/hr phone call is just to get to the actual interview. They don't really know what they're talking about half the time and you'll never hear from them again once your hired. I had one say that the pay range was $X and I'd have to be in the office 2 days a week. After the interview, I got an offer for fully remote at $10k above the top of the given range and not doing half the stuff the recruiter mentioned.
Yeah ai-driven interviews are a real thing. They asked you not to ask questions until specific parts or that questions will be answered at the end so you can only answer their questions with simple answers.

Once a recruiter said to me, 10+ years of experience with SQL doesn't match with the requirements, because it is written there 5-8 years of SQL experience... That was the deal breaker point to both of us I guess.

As i love overthinking things, what could we consider a "database in css"? Well, css has variables, and we could change those variables and even have some conditional logic on it with custom properties.... So we could technically use ONLY CSS and HTML (the tech required by the job description) to store and manipulate arbitrary data conditionally (Based in events)... We could even make some filtering for querying data by means of a "has" properly... Idk guys, this might be doable, we could make a sort of makeshift simple non-relational list based binary database in CSS, we might have to add that to our resume
If they're willing to waste your time by giving you an interview with someone who knows nothing about the actual position you applied for, then feel free to waste their time by telling them exactly what they want to hear, whether it's true or not.
With what I’ve seen people make an excel and Minecraft I wouldn’t be surprised of some maniac found away to brute force making a database in CSS. I can’t think of one, but that’s because I’m not that type of built built different
Just divert it slightly, avoiding saying no: "I did program the frontend representation of a database including CSS. I'm assuming that is what you asked of me. It is quite basic to do." It's all in the attitude.
database in css... you guys don't understand the horror, if it were possible... it's effing cascades... there's specificty issue, where sometimes it won't display the update no matter what, just because the code from 2 years put multiple selector, or somehow multiple !important in the values, just because...

You want someone that knows something about older nearly dead languages. thats actually very good but willing to get it working while everyone else takes the credit. able to take your team leads half thought out mumbles into actual product. Know what AI actually is. And finally take any inane idea and turn it into a good one
CSS Databases have the issue that the user needs to know css because he has to CRUD the entried into the css file by hand. Also these are sadly not atomic executions and it doesn't support transactions.

The css database bit is a trap, you are supposed to react bewildered and outraged. The interviewer, is testing if you just say yes to everything. Nah, just kidding. The interviewer don't know what css and database means.
