Gunfire erupted at a Donald Trump rally on Saturday, sparking panic in the crowd and spattering the Republican presidential candidate with blood, before he emerged and defiantly pumped his fist in the air and was ushered to a waiting car.
Trump grimaced and grabbed his ear before security hustled him away, his red "Make America Great Again" hat knocked off. The Secret Service and the former president's campaign said Trump was safe following the shooting in Butler, Pennsylvania, about 30 miles (50 km) north of Pittsburgh.
Live video showed blood spattered on Trump's right cheek and ear.
Downing Street in the United Kingdom issued a statement about the shooting:
“We are shocked by the scenes at President Trump’s rally in Pennsylvania. We condemn all forms of political violence in the strongest terms and we send our best wishes to President Trump and his family at this time."
Peter Cardwell speaks with former Reform UK deputy leader Ben Habib and political commentator Jonathan Lis.

Former US Marine here. The range was around 150m, not 200m. That's considered close range for an AR-style weapon. It's less than the minimum range (200m) we train at, and far less than the max range (500m) we train at with no scope for a man-sized target...with iron sights (i.e. no scope/optics). For someone in a prone position, a 150m shot is incredibly easy if you have even basic marksmanship training. It continues to perplex me that the Secret Service ignored this obvious sniper position. It's flat. It's elevated. It has line-of-sight to the podium. You could hardly ask for a better place to shoot from. Why wasn't it being watched?

Pennsylvania is a closed primary state. It means only registered Republicans can vote in the Republican primary. Plenty of people registered as Republicans so they could vote against Trump. There was even a movement for Democrats to vote in the Republican primary in open primary states. It was a whole thing.
