I have learned a lot from Derrick in this video. Derrick demonstrated strong communication skills in terms of clarifying questions, confirming questions, answering questions in specific areas, tone of voice, body language and so on. Compared to Taiwanese students, Derrick has successfully established credibility when he answered questions, offering his insight and personal experience in a tactful way. I don’t know how Derrick acquired these communication skills as he is just in his second year in junior high school. But I’ll be the first to admit that Derrick outperform most of students at the same age as Derrick.
This is a very interesting comparison. I enjoy it. How about doing one episode to compare after school activities between American kids and Taiwanese kids? 😀
Watching video really makes me wanting the Taiwanese kids could one day be more open minded, more willing to express themselves and have more confidence in what they say and think.
My most memorable Taiwan 公小/elementary school lunch item was the tomato/bean sprouts/seaweed clear soup that they'd transport from the school kitchen along with our own reheated metal bento boxes (便當盒) to each of the classrooms. We the students would be assigned to ladle and distribute the soup to each student and eat alongside our own bento boxes.
