That main road coursing through the Hamptons is extremely busy, especially in the summer, because it’s the ONLY through road and so everyone uses it. But the general area, various Hamptons, are so much more dreamy, bucolic, beautiful, and peaceful than you can see in the video, unfortunately. Not your fault, just the way these cameras work. Glad you were safe during your ride. Enjoyed it, fun to see it when I’m not behind the wheel. It’s also an historical place, the oldest building in America is preserved there, from the 1500’s.

It would have been nice if you turned the camera or your head to the side and slowed down when you passed by some of these grand estates with the tall hedges so that we could get a look at the houses.

10:50 some Pitch Pines..that area around Daniel's Hole Road if you went right you'd have been in the Hardscrabble Barrens. Most of Long Island was Pine Barrens and thats why you see so many Pitch Pines trees. They smell nice especially in summer. Also unlike in NYC & Nassau you can take your bike on Suffolk Transit Buses they have racks up front. They don't accept Metrocards though you can pay in cash dollar bills included.

You should take a ride through Amagansett.. See Jerry Seinfields house with the baseball field on it (Billy Joels forner house) That is actually the most expensive road in the Hamptons. Lilly Pond as well by Main Beach

Years ago I met a guy from East Hampton. He said East Hampton was like Lake Forest,IL. I think Lake Forest might be more Beautiful. F Scott Fitzgerald had a girl friend from Lake Forest. 15 million those houses look like farm homes I live in Harrisburg Pennsylvania and just down the block from me we have a section called Bellevue you go in through the street and you’d think you are in a different city all together the houses are massive some have three car garages and some are so big you can enter from one side and exit above to the street

I was just there today. Looks as it did many years ago. The farms are still tiny. Loaves and Fishes is right where it is - also pricey. Very quaint tiny village as Sagaponack always was.

Well, you go down Sagg Main toward the beach. Past the Little Red Schoolhouse. Past the General Store. Midway past the cemetary, look to the right, that's our house. Family moved out in 75 or 6 or so Burned down a few years ago. Now rebuilt, I think. YT videos capture the heartache of the fire.

Rt 27, Montauk road itself is the main road to Montauk. There is really no other choice. Look it up on maps. The side roads are much nicer. There are no Interstates, no limited access highways.

I was born and raised on long Island. In the Hamptons we take pride in leaving it rustic and not all built up. Yes there is alot of beauty on side roads. So much history. This time of year there is alot of traffic. For the main reason of its beauty. In the winter these streets are empty. Its a summer place.

Its like that because all the privileged people that live out there refuse to widen their roads. It takes 2hrs to drive 20 miles sometimes. Has nothing to do with keeping the place "rustic" or "old timey". People that live there just want to control the amount of people that come in to their privileged area. Worst kinda traffic, worst kinda people. Drive out there once, you'll never want to again. Its like that for a reason.

@@XX-gy7ue one lane in, one lane out. For miles and miles. And every other car is there for site-seeing reasons. Most frustrating traffic you could possibly sit in. Tons of foot traffic and crosswalks. Forgive my negativity, I've been driving that route for over 20yrs. A ride that should take 45mins will take you almost 4hrs simply because of the traffic. And unfortunately, nobody is interested in solving the problem. Especially the people that live out there. It gets worse with every year that passes.

I used to do it all the time when I was younger. There is an annual trip to Montauk from Manhattan that AYH used to do. I hope they will do it next year. It's usually in the spring around April, May. Hundreds of riders. I think it's been canceled. All the rich people that have second or third homes are here because of covid. That's why the road is busy. When you have wifi, download a local map area onto your phone along with your planned route. 20:09 The mercedes was waiting for you. That's why he slowed down.

If Long Island contains two of the NYC boroughs as well as a separate county, then are the Hamptons part of NYC?

No. The NYC line is where Queens and Nassau border meet where Queens is on the NYC side and Nassau is not. Nassau and Suffolk are counties of New York State and since Hamptons is in Suffolk, it's not part of NYC.
