Darlene Dranda Bay Shore High...class of 1954...went on to Cornell where I met my future husband. Loved taking the ferry to Ocean Beach. My father had an old 21 ft. Boat and we liked to toot around the Great South Bay. We really enjoyed blue crabbing...even jumped off the boat in shallow water near the island and clammed...lots of clams in those days and "tons" of crabs...those were the days and now I am an old woman...sigh.... After I got married, we lived on the north shore in Mt.Sinai (next to Port Jefferson) when hubby worked at Brookhaven...then, two years later, moved to Chicago so he could study for his doctorate in microbiology. My firstborn was born in Mt. Sinai hospital. Did you go to Bay Shore High?

My history begins on Sunrise Highway which ultimately took me to 25A and the north shore of Long Island and Shelter Island. Brings back SO many wonderful memories. Long Island is my favorite place in the world to live, breathe, and bike. I did not attend Bay Shore High school. I'm from Ohio and worked on Wall Street for 17 yrs.

Must have felt good to take a seat after miles of walking over the sands and boardwalks of Fire Island. My first time to Fire Island. As for the ferry ride back, looked like tired passengers were anxious to get off the ferry as the sun was setting.. There should have been an Action Kid announcement: "Please be seated as the ferry arrives at the dock." Good you made it back before the forecasted storm.

I live in bay shore but north bay shore (they are vastly different. North bay shore is almost considered a ghetto haha) but I’ve been on that ferry so many times! Love to see my area represented :)

Wow! Living on Long Island and having my brother who owns a place on kismet I’ve taken this ferry multiple times and honestly it NEVER feels like it’s 30 minutes it always seems to go by so fast.

Action kid this is Jeanne in Florida. Originally from New York but I grew up here all 50 something years of them. Last time I saw fire Island was when I was eight years old died pretty cool dude pretty cool I forgot what it feels like it’s freaky and weird and without palm trees and I thought that was kind of funny . There’s a rumor going around the Internet that a Montauk bar actually has a palm tree? That’s funky

Don't care how sexy you're trying to make New York seem, the ride ( if you had to take it everyday to get to work is hell) You should know that. There is nothing sexy about being taxed to death. Enjoy the ride across the water no one would willing jump into.
