Beautiful street art. Bush wick has changed from what I remember growing up in the late 60's-70's. Graffiti was king and queen during that time. I vividly remember the blackout of '77. As soon as the lights went out, My brother, sister and I hightailed to our home. It was soooo hot during the blackout. We were not allowed to leave the porch. What followed was like watching a movie as people rushed to the Main Street to loot. Really sad time then, but one for the history books.

This is dope, Kenneth. It's nice to see a different perspective on your walks. Tom Delgado is very engaging and I appreciate you guys doing a collab. Hopefully, you guys do more in the future. One suggestion, ask more questions to Tom about the areas. I like hearing the detail about the neighborhood. Have a nice day, bro.

Talking about "Knickerbocker" in this video: The term "Knickerbockers" traces its origin to the Dutch settlers who came to the New World - and especially to what is now New York - in the 1600s. Specifically, it refers to the style of pants the settlers wore...pants that rolled up just below the knee, which became known as "Knickerbockers", or "knickers". Dutch history !!!

But the word is not Dutch but German. We did wear them as well, but its German origin. I did like that Tom knew the name Brooklyn comes from Breukelen. Flushing comes from Vlissingen. I just love the Dutch heritage of NY. Makes me a bit proud of it. I also feel connected with NY the most when it comes to the USA.
@JanuitGroningen
@JanuitGroningen 3 года назад
@@saskiapanter That also makes me proud Saskia. But Groningen was not yet part of the Netherlands at the time. So I don't actually feel proud. Later New York came into the hands of the English. It was therefore an exchange with regard to Suriname. In which the Netherlands got Suriname. And that is current these days.

You and Tom was so enjoyed, being with you and Tom a taking a friend along to see streets, people and art of street with magic of colors, that just wow! my eyes. I just love street art, the magic it brings and mind trip, which is fun. I alway like seeing people, they make the world turn, in everyway. You and Tom, talk and yes, learn few things along the way as we walk in neighborhoods. There was that touch so often of time gone by trying catch a moment into what is now. Brooklyn, was apart my life living in New York, back in my days in 1970's, now in my old age, it bring back girls I knew and guys that I hung with in my days there. As I know, I can't catch it back, but, both you and Tom, just for about hour made my early morning bright, it was brought back into my mind, with touch of music playing in my head of The Velvet Underground song, sung by Lou Reed " Pale Blue Eyes " of someome I knew, back in those days. Thank You, Both So Much, Kid and Tom ... A Nice Touch ... to my day .. keep Action Up Kid. Best To You Both. God Bless ... And Know Angels will keep You Safe.

Tom is right Bushwick was a very dangerous place in the past. Looking at it today it's amazing the transformation from the seventies and eighties. I left NYC in the nineties because of my job and have only gone back for funerals. My mother worked at the old St Catherine's Hospital on Bushwick Ave. We used to go to Rockaway beach by driving down Bushwick Ave to Jamaica Ave to Woodhaven Blvd to Cross Bay Blvd over the toll bridge which at the time the toll was a quarter. Down to beach 108th St in Rockaway.

I got out my street map to follow your walk as I did with your Far Rockaway tour. I'm in Brooklyn but not near Bushwick which looks great but was fearful years ago. I work in he subway but it's too far to pick jobs there, for me, at least. I stay on the F line mostly in Brooklyn along McDonald Avenue. I knew another employee who'd work at Morgan, Montrose, Jefferson stations but he drove there when the neighborhood was really deserted.

Bushwhack, Crooklyn was the name that I called it back in the late 70s. There were plenty of burned out buildings and street gangs. The worse part of Bushwick was the projects on Flushing Ave. Urban blight hit hard in Bushwhack. Now it has been gentrified along with the ridiculous rents. If it ain t one thing , it's another. Eddie in NYC 3/7/22 I like the videos . Keep it coming.

Tom walks fast...I know he's not from NY originally but a true sign of a New Yorker is fast walking .....right?

I grew up in Bushwick...which back in the day was just Brooklyn...Knickerbocker Ave was small neighborhood stores...Flushing Ave from Knickerbocker up to Ondrrdonk House was full of drugs & prostitutes we were never allowed near there as kids...Wyckoff Ave & Stockholm St had a movie theater (Wagner Theater) then turned into a triple x theater were never allowed there either...growing up Wyckoff Hospital was a very small hospital.
