Miami has a very 1980s-style rapid transit system called "Metrorail". It has two lines, Green and Orange, which parallel each other for almost all of their length, branching in two separate directions on the north end.
Metrorail uses cars built by the Budd company, the same company that built the R32 cars on the NYC Subway. These cars used by Miami Metrorail are from the mid 1980s and are among the last subway cars Budd ever built. They have never been refurbished, and have the same interior, mechanical, and electrical design they had when delivered in the 1980s.
Taken on January 2nd, 2016.

I love this system and their railcars. Probably better then their Baltimore counterparts! The only thing is, they're about to be replaced by Hitachi cars.

Many of those cars are in service since since opening day 1985 - translation those cars are over 30 years old (about the average lifespan of a train car). There were train expansions planned but never went through. BTW - Dj Hammers a new train line is currently under construction (Brightline Trains) running on the FEC tracks starting from Downtown Miami going North & end in Orlando. Ft. Lauderdale - Palm Beach section will open soon with Ft. Lauderdale - Miami opening late summer & it will be a while before Palm Beach - Orlando section opens. Also Tri-rail may be splitting on the south end & some trains are going to Downtown Miami instead of MIA (same station as the Brightline Train.

Miami won't be getting an extension to the Metrorail.Instead they got suckered into another busway.Yes folks ,the 1.5 billion dollars Miami Dade collected for the metrorail will not go for metrorail expansion. Most of the people who are affected are black ,Perrine,Goulds ,Florida City ,Homestead,Cutler Ridge. Up north ,up 27th ave ,all the way to Miami Gardens ,all the way to the county line.Suckered again...........Great Video.

I was born in the 2000s and I've seen a footage in 1984 that the Metrorail is filled with rich middle-class Americans that live far and loves using Metrorail to avoid traffic in I-95 and US1 which were happy times but now, security that doesn't do their job when a person is being threatened or robbed which happened to me, drug addicts, poor conditions and sanitation in the Metrorail and MDT losing money in the 2008 stock market crash and not investing in better conditions, security and new technology to replace old trains and old busses. It cost $0.25 to ride but now, it's $2.25, it's a mess and employees wasting their time and removing routes from the map which makes people unable to reach their destination is just stupid... Poor people riding and asking money from one to another is a mess.... I hate riding transit but I have to since it's the only way I can get to my School 15 miles away from Kendall to Little Havana. It would been better if I had a car, but I'm poor and I don't have a driver license.

A few years ago a major hurricane blew the tracks off of part of the elevated structure. The Metrorail was out of operation for a month or so while they made repairs. Other than that the structure has withstood the weather well. While the cars have only three doors, they are the same width as IND/BMT cars. You must have filmed during off hours. IIRC, they run 6 or 8 car trains during peak hours.
