Think of all the things you could buy if you won €2,000,000 from one hand of poker. Well, either Jason Koon or Kane Kalas will have the chance to go on a shopping spree after they find themselves in a gigantic pot during a Triton Poker high stakes cash game. Jason Koon had to decide on the river whether to move all-in for value or check back after he rivers top pair. What do you think the poker legend will do?
When you are not a regular player in a live cash game, and you are playing relatively tightly, remember that players will generally overfold against you. Therefore, 3-betting medium pairs like nines or tens might only result in your opponents folding the weakest part of their range, which you crush. However, when they do decide to continue, they more than likely have a very tight range which may dominate you.
Jason Koon is a 38 year old professional poker player from America. He has over $56,000,000 in live tournament earnings putting him in the top 3 on the all-time money list. He has 1 World Series Of Poker (WSOP) bracelet from the 2021 $25,000 Heads-Up Championship event. He was also a GGPoker Ambassador for almost 3 years up until 2024. Since 2017, Jason is up over $450,000 from live-streamed cash games.
Kane Kalas ‘Nascar_1949’ is a professional poker player from America. He has over $1,900,000 in live tournament earnings, putting him in the top 1,250 on the all-time money list. His biggest cash of $500,364 came at the 2024 World Poker Tour - WPT Borgata Open in Atlantic City, in the $3,500 buy-in WPT Borgata Championship event. In 2023, Kalas released an album titled High Hopes, dedicated to his father, Harry Kalas, and the city of Philadelphia. The cover album includes original compositions of 18 classic American Standards. Since 2016, Kane is up over $890,000 from live-streamed cash games.
The 2018 Triton Montenegro Series was held at the Maestral Resort and Casino, Montenegro from May 12th - 18th in 2018. It had 4 different poker tournaments; HK$250,000 and HK$1,000,000 buy-in Short deck Ante Only events, and a HK$250,000 buy-in 6-Max event, aswell as a HK$1,000,000 buy-in No-Limit Hold’em Main Event.
Triton Poker was founded in 2015 by Paul Phua and Richard Yong; their aim was to attract a healthy mixture of recreational poker players and seasoned poker professionals. Part of what makes the Triton Series so special is that it’s open to a wide range of poker players - not just a select few. They envisioned Triton as a series of poker events providing excellent entertainment value for audiences passionate about poker. Some of the most famous poker players to have appeared at Triton events have been Phil Ivey ‘RaiseOnce’, Tom Dwan ‘Durrr’, Patrick Antonius ‘The Finn’, Michael Addamo ‘imluckbox’, Chris Brewer, Jason Koon ‘JAKoon1985’, Tony G, Dan Cates ‘Jungleman’, Doug Polk ‘WCGRider’, Stephen Chidwick ‘stevie444’, Linus Loeliger ‘LLinusLLove’, Isaac Haxton ‘philivey2694’, Mikita Badziakouski ‘fish2013’, Timofey Kuznetsov ‘Trueteller’ and many more.
🔍 Preflop:
Jason Koon raises to €11,000 with AQo from the hijack. Mikita Badziakouski calls with 98 of clubs from the small blind before Kane Kalas 3-bet squeezes to €55,000 out of the big blind with pocket tens. Koon decides to 4-bet to €120,000, which forces a fold from Badziakouski with his suited connector. Kalas sticks around with a call, and two players head to the flop.
💸 Flop - 6s 5d 3h:
Kalas remains ahead with an overpair on the low-connected flop. After he checks, Koon fires out a continuation bet of €128,000. Kalas throws in the call and they head to the turn with over half a million euros in the middle.
💣 Turn - Tc:
The T of clubs on the turn upgrades Kalas’ overpair to a set and the effective nuts. He checks, and Koon continues the aggression with a second barrel of €160,000. Kalas decides to slowplay and just call, perhaps hoping to keep all of Koon’s bluffs in.
🌊 River - Ad:
The river is a disaster for Koon as he has now paired his ace. Kalas sets the trap by checking to Koon. Koon now has to decide whether to check it back or go for value. What will the high-stakes poker professional do with around €500,000 left in his chip stack? Stick around to the end of this poker video to find out!

I would've checked. Would ask what is he calling down with in a 4bet pot? Wouldn't put him on TT. But maybe QQ+, AQ+ (Maybe down to ATs) But if he's hasn't gotten out of line all night it much be a strong range. A comes out I would just check an expect to see AK, AQs, AA,KK.

@@LouisTorrespokeroptimal play would be to check.. Koon has to question why Kalas kept check calling him all the way till the river. It could only mean he has AA or KK or QQ or JJ.. he probably wouldn’t call the 4bet with A10s. But maybe with AKs. But if he had AKs, he would check call the double barrel of Koon with no flush draw. So, it’s obvious he has a high pocket pair. Now Koon is 50% right that even pocket Tens wouldn’t call a 4bet half the time (especially someone tight).. so his bluff attempts were okay till the turn. But after he rivers an Ace, he has enough equity for a showdown which he should have opted for with a check.. Because there is a possibility that kalas was playing with pocket Aces himself.

Not entirely sure if the turn bet achieve too much. Kalas's 3bet oop and 4bet call make his range quite transparent, which consists with a lot of medium pairs. Can also rule out a lot of smaller pairs too when he called the flop. If Koon put Kalas on 9s 10s Js Qs, then he should realize kalas is probably not folding to a turn bet on a relatively clean turn, which coincidentally favors kalas range too.

CHECK...nice hand...also experience with player would defo help in the decision at the end...dude came along all the way...i'm trying to make a move with no realized equity until the end hitting an A...nah, check..nice hand.

I think Koon played the hand very good ... he knew almost for sure that kalas cannot have aces , 1. cause he blocked 1 ace and 2. cause Kalas may 5 bet preflop with them and rarely just call...he played the hand like Aces and Kalas top range is KK and bottom JJ...they both had polarized ranges but what surprised me the most was how quickly he called on the river (i know he only lose in that spot from Aces but still Koon played like he had aces) long story short 😅 if Koon put Kalas on JJ , QQ or KK the most of the time he was very right to shove the river...i'm not a great player but this is my opinion
@MrVeenrok
@MrVeenrok Месяц назад
So if he put him on jj-kk, why push it? Just check and win the pot. Jj-kk never call this spot because opponent will have AK a lot of the time. So its 100% check, because you never make the better hands fold and never getting called by worse
@popovicigabrieljiva8852
@popovicigabrieljiva8852 Месяц назад
@@MrVeenrok i don t think KK is an easy fold in that spot cause you still beat a lot of hands...you block AK a lot of time and you lose of all AXs but how many hands with AXs will bet the flop and the turn with that deep stack? I think AXs will check the turn a lot of time so what remains ? QQ , JJ , 99 , 88 and even 44 that Koon may had and played all the same so KK is not an easy fold and Koon has decide to bluff from the beginning with AQo and he played the hand like a big one and i think he shoved any card on the river except K or J and maybe a Q(even Kalas may had AK in small percentege of time)...he took the story to the end and lost but it s not a bad play in my opinion..yes he might check but not 100%

Koon had a good feel where he was in the hand, until the turn, it was a misread, but he took a chance and tried to push him off an overpair. Ace was bad luck on river, can't see myself ever putting in that kind of raise on a pair after the hand played the way it did. I feel that he should have checked the river, me personally, would have been extremely fearful of a set after being called twice after raising with squadoosh..lol against another hand it prolly would have worked but like I said he had put his opponent on an over pair or possibly a suited ace and moon was obviously DEAD WRONG
@jorisdemunck9406

I think a check on the river is better. We dont get value from his pocket pairs and we only get called by hands that are better. If the river wasn't and ace I see the merrit in bluffing trying to rep AA,KK,QQ

@@AkshayDeoke it's entirely possible, true. But you can't just think about one specific hand your opponent could have; you have to consider the entire range of hands he shows up with on this river, given the action on previous streets. As the video shows, that range includes not only AA but hands like AK/AQ. There are far more combinations of AK and AQ than there are of AA, so it's an easy call with TT.
