It's essentially based on real life instances of people believing that they are cursed or haunted and do things that end up making them believe even more in the superstition
@radscorpion8
@radscorpion8 Год назад
Actually a lot of the family members died from tragedies, and many just disappeared. But maybe half of them, you could argue bad parenting
@astrea4020
@astrea4020 Год назад
@@radscorpion8 No? Only Milton disappeared. He found Edie’s stories about the rest of the family and didn’t want to die, so he ran away and was never found. The rest have pretty confirmed ways they died. Sven was crushed to death, Molly was poisoned, Barbara was murdered, Sam fell to his death, Calvin swung himself off a cliff, Walter was hit by a train, Gregory drowned, Gus was hit by debris in a storm, Dawn died of illness, Sanjay died in an earthquake, Lewis committed suicide, Edie died of old age, and Edith died in childbirth.
@ThatGuyNikolas
@ThatGuyNikolas Год назад
@@astrea4020 no, it could be. But I have a different theory about what happened to Milton.... from all the drawings in the all the cubby holes I think it's fairly obvious that he was a curious kid... So I think when he read about where Edie went that night... Well.... I think he wanted to check out the old house himself... And from that I can only assume that he either drowned there, or trying to get there, hence why they never found him...

@@KinoGhost For me, Lewis' story just shows you how life crushes you. He was stuck in the cannery with no way out, so he escaped in his fantasies. I also construct elaborate stories, similar to him, but I get stuck on minutiae (how does the FTL works; what the sword looks like, etc.), I guess that's why his story resonates with me.
@KinoGhost

@@ivanpetrov5255 I get you completely. Escaping to fantasy because of the monotony of most jobs is something I also do, especially if they let me listen to music. Now that I think about it.. yeah... Molly was hungry but was left alone and was never let out, leading to hear eating something poisonous. Calvin's was an accident (but his brother should've atleast brought him back with his broken leg and all) Barbara was left alone to fend for herself while a murderer was loose, and was murdered. Sven cared more for his work than his family which backfired when his project literally fell on him. Walter was just sealed off instead of being taken into a psychiatrist. Gregory was bad parenting 101 Gus was left outside while there was a storm. Sam forcing Dawn to go to something she didn't even enjoy ( and traumatised her ). Dawn got too overprotective. Milton ran away due to Dawn's overprotectiveness. Lewis was depressed and turned to drug use which only got intervened when he got addicted ( which is so effed up ngl ). Edith got pregnant as a minor. And Edie died the moment she knew the family was officially broken.

Joseph Anderson has a great video on this game too if you are interested. What really makes me feel bad is how the psychiatrist must feel. I understand that it's mostly a joke when we say that she did a terrible job, but she obviously feels very guilty about the whole ordeal. She thought the daydreaming was helping him get over his substance abuse, but it only turned out to be destructive in the end.

This was a great play through, I'm really happy you went through it with Fauna. I think that every story had a bit of truth to all their deaths. Some of them were obvious, like the baby in the bathtub, but others took a bit more thought like Walter being traumatized by Barbara's murder and spending decades alone under the house afraid of "monsters" which wound up just being the train shaking the house... This stream also showed the affect of the players' perceptions on the game. Until the baby story, I think Bae was seeing it as too much of a horror game to get emotionally invested, but after that touching moment she seemed to delve further into the deeper meanings of the stories. Or maybe I just over-analyzed it while watching, lol I love Bae and Fauna's chemistry and can't wait until the next collab ❤💚

Something that didn't come up in the chat during the stream, Milton's deal, including disappearing into one of his own paintings, is a reference to one of the developer's other games, The Unfinished Swan. It's a puzzle platformer game built around painting things to progress. In that game, there is a King character you meet toward the end of the game, who looks like an older version of Milton (not to mention, that Milton's portrait is wearing a crown). It's obviously up to interpretation if it IS Milton or just a cute reference.
@deadzipper1777
@deadzipper1777 Год назад
I think the developers confirmed it's the same Milton, so he did somehow travel to another world. Although if there wasn't that confirmation, I would assume he was actually still living in the house like Walter did. Edith mentions if you're close to the garage that she hears something moving inside, and after she exits the house for the first time from Walter's secret exit, the electricity turns back on somehow. Still not what caused either of those two events, but if Milton is in Unfinished Swan, then it wasn't him.

As someone who struggled with severe mental illness while working a mind numbing and repetitive factory job it hits extremely close to home, especially the ending. I got out before actually going through with it but disassociating and having intrusive thoughts of self forever sleep while working around heavy/dangerous machinery is a recipe for disaster. If anyone reading this ever has thoughts like this please don't be afraid to talk to someone like your doctor about it, intrusive thoughts aren't something to be ashamed of but there are things that can be done to help manage them, especially if they are impacting your mental wellbeing or physical safety

In regards to Molly: The berries she eats in the windowsill are Holly. Holly is typically used as a holiday decoration, but the berries are poisonous. Combined with a considerable amount of toothpaste, and some old vegetables... It's likely that she was poisoned by the stuff she ate.
@DairunCates
@DairunCates Год назад
Actually, Holly being poisonous enough to kill someone is an old wive's tale. You end up getting bad nausea and diarrhea. However, romanticizing it as a Holly poisoning instead of blaming it on sending a sick child to bed starving in a room full of rotten carrots and other things that are toxic in high doses to a kid is legitimately consistent with Edie's problem of mystifying her own neglect and passing it off as a curse. So, most people don't take it so much as a plot hole as further evidence that there isn't actually a curse, but that Edie needs there to be a curse to avoid her own guilt in her family's mostly avoidable deaths that are primarily caused by people BELIEVING there's a curse and doing reckless things.

Wow, never heard of this game before but what a masterpiece. Beautiful visuals, excellent storytelling, and wonderful artistic choices. I even like the fact that its so short since playing it in more than one sitting would definitely take away from the experience. But its not so short that you feel things were left out. 10/10 I loved it

Telling gripping and emotional stories through games is really interesting to me and when Bae got affected by Gregory's story, I just sat there whispering to my screen like she could hear me, "It's alright, your strong and I really respect that you could bare your feelings like that, it shows you have a big heart." Thank you to both Bae and Fauna for another amazing collab.

Annapurna Interactive are one of this generations greatest indie creators, between this, Twelve Minute, Artful Escape, Outer Wilds, Stray, I can only hope that they continue to make games because they are truly masters.

Regarding Lewis, I think that the game hints at the suggestion of whether or not it was ok for him to stay in his delusions. Because he seemed to be doing fine up until a certain point, when he should’ve been brought back. I know that Silent Hill 2 also addresses this situation, and asks the player if it’s ok to take someone out of the world they’ve created into the harshness of reality. Even if it’s the “objectively” right thing to do, they are happy in that world. Is it ok to take them out, knowing they might not recover from that?

What an interesting game. Thanks for playing it, you two! As for my own thoughts, I don't think there was a "curse" in the literal sense. Moreso you just see a lot of avoidable accidents and bad decisions, which makes the story a lot more tragic. For example, Molly would've been fine if she hadn't been locked in her room and starved, which led to her eating gerbil food and toothpaste. Walter's death could've been avoided if he had gotten proper help instead of hiding in the basement. Lewis' death is due to his terrible therapist not helping him properly. And don't even get me started on the baby... In a way, the family made their own curse through unresolved trauma, or at least that's how I see it.

I, like both of the girls, remember hearing a lot about this game, but no specifics or anything about it outside of it being a story/walking sim, and wow this was a really good watch! I only paused once to go for a quick drinks refill and grab dinner. This was captivating, and hearing Fauna tease Bae every time she jumped at the little noises and door movements but also calming her afterwards was super nice and cute, and oh GOD the fucking gregory bathtub scene and their reactions to it, specifically Bae's, I legit cried a couple tears myself hearing Bae sniffling with a quaky voice from her trying to suppress tears herself Q~Q. Thank you both for this lovely, sombre stream. I can't wait to watch all the rest of the collabs between you both this month! maybe even get to catch a couple live xD

Before watching this stream I went and played through the game myself. Gregory was rough, but tbh Lewis hit me particularly hard. There's a lot of interesting theories and stuff to look into about this game. Edie especially looks pretty wack when you consider some things about her and her actions throughout the timeline. She sold the story of her daughter's death as a murder to a comic book, allowed her son to be a terrified, traumatized recluse in a secret basement for thirty years, probably wrote the weird journal entry by molly (because how would a child dying of food poisoning have written that?), and then she made some fanciful story about the 'lowest tide in a thousand years' letting her walk out to the old house. I'd suggest looking it up if you want to go down a rabbit hole!

My grandma always talked about the most fun stuff she had as a kid anyway lol. I will never forget her story where she punched a shark while they were out in the ocean🦈. Grandma's dad was a fisherman and they go on fishing trips a lot. Its likely to be not true but I love to believe it's true. Lmao Anyway thank you for playing this game! That was a lot of fun.
